| A Different Way To Paint High Lift Bodies..maybe?
I got thinking last night, as i was dying some rpm chrome wheels i had stripped, I came up with an idea to dye a high lift body. I think it would be perfect to resist scratches and with some clear coat to give it a shine, it could be the perfect paint job......but does anyone know if the heat of the boiling water would warp or dis figure the body in any way, especially in the cab support post area? Has anyone tried this. Please give me your thoughts on this. |

You might be able to dye it. Not sure if styrene will take dye or not. Try it on a scrap of sprue first. The body is definitely too soft to withstand a prolonged stay in boiling water, but you could dip it in for a few seconds, then take it out & let it cool before dunking it again. That's if it'll take dye in the first place. |

when i needed to boil 3 3/4 figures (basically made of the same styrene) you can dip it and leave it in for a while actually, not sure if the truck will accept dye. it will be very hot and floppy and it will cool and go back to the same hardness so if you warp it youre SOL. you would need to match the dye concentration and time under for the bed and the cab as well as keep it fully submerged. steam gets hot as fawk. search for "boil and pop" method on google or something. its the same process just no popping. alternatively can you cool dye it? |
