| Question about painting, stripes first or background?
I have a bug body I'm about to paint, and I'm going to do a few stripes along the side and on top. What I'm wondering is if there's a difference between masking off the stripes and doing the background color first, or masking off the majority of the body, and painting the stripes first? Other than having to mask off less area, does it make a large difference in your experience? Thank you for your help... -- jason |

You paint darker colors first whenever possible, because the dark color will show through a lighter color... essentially dulling it or darkening it. HOWEVER, you can back a light color with a non-transparent bright color (e.g. silver), which will leave the bright color bright no matter what you spray behind it. I mention this cause sometimes it's just easier to spray another color than paint darkest to lightest. Especially if that lighter color is metallic and should be backed with silver/gold anyways ;) |

I just back the light colors when I have to paint them first. Also I depending on the effect, I mask the small stuff, and paint the larger stuff first. Saving the stripe or front of a car for last. To me its lest waste on masking materials and such.
