| Unimog 416
Ive had this unimog body sitting around for a while and decided to chop it up and make a drop bed for it. I made the new bed a bit longer to make the body fit onto a diaz chassis I have. So with the longer wheelbase Its going to be a Unimog 416 instead of a 406. Im kind of thinking I made the bed a bit to tall though.. Going to add some more details to the bed and some paint next. |

also this is the first time I have tried to paint the outside of a lexan shell... Do you guys still use lexan paints or something else? I was going to primer the whole thing?? still undecided on a color after that.

A lot of people paint the outside of the lexan bodies, mostly to put the "rust" on the inside for a weathered look when they brush up against rocks. I dont see why paint wouldnt stick to the outside, just wash it first like you do for the inside. Dont forget to post pictures. Correct me if Im wrong guys. Justin |

Cool build so far. I use lexan paint then paint over it with regular model paint. That way the final color will not peel/flake off.

You think I should lay down primer first over the whole thing? I got a bunch of cans of tamiya fine primer. I also have a few cans of tamiya color would that be any good? posting up progress pics of the body soon....

thanks.... I made the fenders by cutting out a big circle of styrene and another circle about 3mm inside it to make a thin ring. then cut the ring right down the middle to make two thin even sized arches.. then skined the pair of arches to make a fender with the styrene strip... Not sure if that really makes sence .. but .. if you want i can prob better explain it with some pics if you want I want to see if I can get some paint down on it today. Im still a bit unsure about what paint to use since the body is made of two different materials. I have heard that I should put down a layer of lexan paint then I can use the tamiya color or what ever other paint I want over it? is that right? Can I use lexan paint on the styrene? I want to paint the whole thing one base color to keep it even. |

That looks really good. You definitely got some styrene skillz. Please include a link to the actual build thread when you start it if you have not already. |
