Default Dunno what it does to plastic ...

For removing paint from die cast metal car bodies, I have used Mr Muscle oven cleaner. The caustic/ non environmentally friendly version.
I'm in New Zealand, don't know if you get it in the US.

IMPORTANT WARNING: I've only used it on Die Casts, never on Plastic - So I have no idea if it "eats " plastic.

Try it on some scrap of what you what to strip first.

I know this question was posted a month ago but I just needed to undo a botched paint job on a Lexan body. After trying everything in my shop on scraps of Lexan I discovered that Mineral Spirits did a great job of removing the paint and had no ill effects on the lexan. I easily wiped the paint off or most of the body with paper towels soaked in mineral spirits. Some areas took a little hard rubbing. I always have a few old tooth brushes in my tool box and one came in handy for getting the paint out of the tight spots.

The botched paint scheme on this car was primarily black, I was able to get all the black out of the body and repaint with white and yellow.

I hope this helps someone...

By mineral spirits do you mean mineral water?(i.e. perrier)

No, mineral spirits are a type of paint thinner used in oil paints. You can find it at most hardaware stores. It is not nearly as tasty as a fine mineral water...

Another reason I love this place! I was looking at my bug body, realizing I hated the paint job on it... I guess I have ways to get the paint off and paint it the color I want.

Most people remove paint from lexan bodies with brake fluid.
