| Any tips for a newbie?
I've read over that link at the top (great information). I picked up an airbrush deal today, and ran to the crafts store and grabbed some waterbase acrylic paints. I'm running into a problem with spraying the paints. I bought some waterbased cleaner (to clean waterbased paints from the gun and whatnot). I ran a bucket thru it, and it worked just fine. I put a lil' bit of paint in, and tryed to spray and it choked out (came out in blops and then just stopped). I used some more of that waterbase cleaner, and it cleaned it out and I was spraying again. I tried the paint a 2nd time, but this time it doesn't do anything except blow bubbles in my lil' pot. Could it be that the gun is clogged, or just a POS? |

That airbrush is a POS, but you can make it work. I think it's a knock off, if it is and you gave more than about $10 for it, You got ripped off. Sorry. It sounds like the paint is too thick. Clean the gun, thin the paint, and run about 25 to 30 psi and you should be fine. Also make sure that the needle is not bent. I use an Iwata eclipse CS, and a Harder Steenbeck infinity 2 in 1. I find that a larger needle size is needed for thicker paint. Good luck.

Yeah, I figured the paint was too thick. I'm trying to get the water/paint mixture just right (almost there). I had a successful test on a clear piece of plastic. I'm just running into it clogging at the tip now, and a lil' blowback occasinally.

Yeah, I know it's not an expensive brush, however I picked up a compressor with the set as well. Has a moisture trap, as well as the guage and auto off (fills up to 60psi and shuts off, turns on at 40psi and can spray a constant 28psi).

You don't have to have top of the line stuff. Sometimes you gotta work with what you can afford. I have been told that the paint should be about the consistency of milk or slightly thicker. Maybe that will help.

Can anyone recommend a mid-line airbrush then? what brand or features make a reasonable good gun without paying too much?
