Default Flat black?

I really like the look of the flat black bug body in this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFi7NbyizmE

I'm guess it's painted on the outside?

What do you guys think?

Has to be painted on the outside. If it scatches just shoot it with the rattle can again.

Mike at Crawler Graphics painted this Grappler Mini lid for me:

Flat black painted from the inside, and the outside is not sanded

Yep, you can get flat black and still paint it on the inside.... all you have to do is sand the outside of the body with fine grit sandpaper or steel-wool(there are many ways to dull polycarbonate).
The clear polycarb body is what make your paint look so "glossy".... so dull it and your paint will look flat.

How fine of a sand paper do you use?
Do you wet sand it? Please Crawler graphics
spill the beans.

i dont think crawler graphics sands his bodies, he always talks about a "special mix" or "secret concoction" im thinking he mixes some juices together, for the lack of a better term, to make the outside dull.

I am not a pro painter, I just enjoy painting
my own bodies. I think an old skool rat rod
flat black looks sic. I just don't want to
screw up a bunch of bodies to get it right.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll try wet sanding unless Crawler Graphics spill the beans.

What if you painted it with a metallic look on the inside, and flat black on the outside... when the scrapes do come, it might give it a look of raw metal showing through?

Buy lexan paint, paint the outside of the body, then paint over the lexan paint with flat black. As long as the lexan paint adheres to the body, you are good to go to paint the outside with flat black primer.

I did it with my cab on this scaler. I painted the inside a mist of orange and red to create a rust effect. Once the outside flat black starts to get rock rash, the rust will show through.
