| Metal body, I want real dents?
I've been searching e bay and antique stores far and wide for a metal body to put on a 1/10th crawler and may need a little help. I'm sure guys have done this and might have a little advice on what to look for. Weight will certainly be an issue, what suspension changes? What bodies may be out there (old Nylint toys) I found a Nylint NAPA truck, might work? I would love to see some pics. The sound of metal on rocks would make things interesting out there crawling. Thanks.

not 1/10th scale or a crawler, but heres one i did on a mlst, it was called the "showstopper mlst", the biggest trick was the mounting of it, the back was easy, the front took a little more thought, then i remembered a aluminum battery hold down i had from a mini-t, and that was the ticket, good luck on your build, laters-bob |

Talk to Metal Masher. He can give you some tips. You can also do a search for threads started by him. He has done several on here. Justin |

It wouldn't have to be very thick metal at all, especially if you want real dent. I have thought about doing this as well but I want to do a jeep body.

You could also visit your local thrift or goodwill store, I bet there is some cool older metal toys at them. Cheers, DC Last edited by Bigcatnearmiss; 03-14-2009 at 11:42 AM. Reason: typo |

I would just as soon bang the body up myself. Why let a train have all the damn fun? Thanks for all of the suggestions fellas, I'll check out Metals rigs, Ive seen a few of his posts, he does amazing work, but I couldn't bring myself to destroy something that nice. My sole purpose of a metal body would be to bang it up. |

There are a mess of old tonka willy's jeep bodies on ebay. Anyone fabed one of these onto their crawler? Might work, hell who knows, may be a little heavy, trying to find out weight through a few sellers. I saw Metal mashers stuff, it is out of hand, but there is no way I could spend that many hours on a body and destroy it, i would hate myself forever. sorry metal masher.

measurements on the tonka willys are 9-5/8L by 5-1/4W at about 8-10oz. without interior. There is also a cool old jeepster commando that is 13"L by 7"W and would be around 1 to 1-1/2 lbs (maybe a little lighter) all stripped down to just a useable body. Any thoughts on how much this weight may affect the chassis (going to be a new losi 2.2) (oil weight?). 13" may be a little long for my liking but might try it out. I suppose if I got the toys and they were no good my daughter could tear them up, 3 year olds are good about that.

| My old Tonka
I got it as a kid, would have been early 1970's. Been thinking about it about a month ago, searched the house and garage and finally found it. Originally was a dump truck. A bit small for a 2.2 I'm thinking. |

I've measured a few crawler bodies and ranged between about 10-13" and roughly 6-9" wide give or take a half inch. I think this could be a fun easy basher body keep at it fella and so will I.

I have 2 of those Tonka Flat-Fendered Jeeps..... These are metal bodied...and they measure between 9"-10" long.....by roughly....2" tall + or - 1/4"....(hood area is taller than rear cargo area). They're about....5-1/8" wide....front and rear... Here's a pic with a 20 oz Soft drink for scale/size comparisons....... I'm new to the RC world....would these work with any kind of scale builds? and here's a few more pics if anybody wants to see them.... http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/u...kajeeps005.jpg http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/u...kajeeps004.jpg http://i656.photobucket.com/albums/u...kajeeps003.jpg Last edited by BiG_DaWgZ; 03-29-2009 at 03:25 PM. |

I have a few old structo trucks that my dad had as toys in the early 50's. I have to hack the fenders up on em to fit wheels under them so I'm having some reservation. I also have one of those flat fendered jeeps like the red one posted above. Only it looks like it went through WWIII compaired to that one.

If I throw an old tonka body (like the ones above) on a crawler what shock oil would be best to use to help with the weight?
