Default Drilling a painted body

I have finished painting my body and all decals are applied. Then I wanted to add a light bar and maybe after that a roof rack. Is it ok to drill into a already painted body. Should I use masking tape or anything or just punch through with my drill?

Noob here.. be gentle.

I back the areas of the body that I want to put holes in with clear shipping tape. I'd use a body reamer instead of a drill also.

X2 on a body reamer. they are a good investment if you don't already have one

X50 on the Body reamer. I tried a drill and if you don't have a nice set of fine bits than the body will get caught and be destroyed. I ruined 2 bodies that way and from then on I use a body reamer. It makes it so much easier to put holes in a body and you can make the holes bigger by small incriments.

i use a some clear duc tape on the inside of the body where ever i put holes in it. then use a body reamer to make the holes.
body reamer and some lexan scissors are a wise investment.
