Wink Marvel at the NEON Crawler

Look on and marvel at the NEON body panels I have created in the BadTurtle Labs. Has anyone used neon polycarbonate before? Just scribe and break all the strait cuts and dremel tool the radius'. Just don't touch the stuff with a drill bit. Don't go near it with a drill bit. Crack city every time.

Nice panels! I used to use that stuff at my old job, you can drill it but you have to be very careful. If you stay away from self tapping screws and those selfstartng bits you'll be fine. Also, light pressure is a must to avoid cracking.

The characteristics you describe are not how lexan behaves, I would suspect the material you have is acrylic.

Yes and it is kind of brittle when you roll over and smack a rock but I only paid $2.44 per 12" x 12" peice, so when I do break a peice I have plenty more. Heck I can get two whole set's of body panels out of one sheet.

It's so cheap and easy to work with, (just dont try and drill it) and looks bad in the sunlight ,I dont mind if a peice cracks once in a while.

The only thing I saw on that site that looks like what you're using is the flourescent plexiglass. Is that what you used? If so, like others have said, that makes sense on how it behaves. That site only shows polycarbonate (Lexan) in clear.

Default Yes, thats the stuff.

I am not a plastic expert. It's the neon plexiglass. I am messing around with the stuff and you can take a Dremel tool with an engraver tip and engrave a logo into the stuff and the logo will glow like the edges do. It's really cool. If you have a CNC mill you could do up some impressive images on the backside of a body panel and your image glows. Sweet.

Default Making holes

How are you drilling the holes in the plastic if you say not to use drill bit? Dremel tool with attachment or are you heating up some metal and melting it?

Yes, I used a pointed grinding bit. That way I plunge the hole by grinding it and then hit the other side for a double chamfer.
