Default Holy Rollers Axial Hardline Crawler Body (Paint Process)

Becky (Holy Roller) received her Axial Hardline Crawler Body and needed to get it painted and ready before her XR-10 arrived. I thought I would start a thread that showed more of a step by step process of how I paint bodies. So over the next day or two I am hoping that I can give a general idea on how I paint a body.

First I would like to say that I love the lines and the overall design of the Hardline Body. It definately was designed for a competive crawler. Not only was it designed to allow you roll over easier front to rear, but with the built in intake scoop on the top it will allow it to roll side to side. Axial did an awesome job and put in a lot of thought when designing this body.

I really wanted this body to stand out. We decided that we would go with a tribal flame design. I am going to try to incorporate some outlines, hardlines, and internal shading into the flames.

The first thing I do is to look at a body and try to layout a design that flows with the shape of the body.

Here is a few pictures of the design I drew out. It looks very busy right now but hopefully at the end every line drawn will have a significant reason.

Being able to see the XR-10 in person at the AWCC, I decided to keep the hood very simple because of the cut outs that will need to be made for the servo for clearance. There is nothing worse than cutting and painting something that will later be cut out and thrown away.

The color scheme for this paint job will be pink, purple, black, charcoal, chrome, and silver.

The front section will be hot pink, the flames will be a white and charcoal fades with black and purple outlines, and the back section will be black. I wa going to carbon fiber the back but I think the size of the carbon will look to big for that area.

Bring it on over and let me know what you want done. I will need to finish it next week before I go back to Louisiana.
