Run them through the dishwasher. It removes the chrome and then you can paint them or just use a large Sharpie pen, I did! |

Just like u would a 1.1 sand an scuff the wheels real good then wash them very good and maybe a lil; wetsanding wouldnt hurt either. wash them again then dry an should be ready for paint.

scuff them with a green scotch bright, once they are rough and uniform, wet the scotch bright and scuff again till you have a smooth surface. wash with a degreasing soap, prime, then paint. |

+ 1 on all the above. You may want to strip the chrome with some Simple Green or Greased Lightning first. Just put the wheels in a ziploc bag, pour the sauce in, marinate, and rinse and repeat as necessary. That should get the chrome off. (Assuming they are plastic wheels.) As with any paint job on any surface, preparation is key. Have fun and post some pics when you're done. Oh, I almost forgot to say, RPM wheels can be dyed with RIT fabric dye for some really cool effects. Check their website. HTH |

x2 on the Rit, I dyed some Axial satin chrome with brown and got a killer anodized bronze effect.

Yes, simple green or oven cleaner to remove the chrome and then I would dye them black if it was me. Paint scrapes off but dye doesnt.

I would strip the chrome with oven cleaner outside because of fumes and then Rit dye them whatever color you were looking to do. Ive dyed many a white plastic piece with Rit dye and it works great. Leave it in the dye longer for a deeper richer color. The dyed chrome turns out well also.

Strip the chrome off first, comes right off with bleach. Put some bleach in a cup and put the wheels in, takes like 10 min.

The way i did it i sanded off the chrome surface just to roughen it up a bit, then spray plastic primer (i use tamiya one) 2 coats. Finally, another 2-3 coats of your colour choice..... Works fine |

| The best way to paint Chrome plastics is a nice tutorial to all of the unknown persons. I searched many times to get the detailed information on this. But I didn’t get the clear picture of it like here. This article will be an asset for the persons who go through this. ____________________ Truck Accident Last edited by disdas; 01-15-2011 at 10:12 AM. |

I was going to go through the steps of taking the chrome off and then primer/paint, but decided to skip all that I just sprayed them black with some krylon fusion. Didn't scuff them or anything. After a couple of coats, they looked pretty good so I sprayed a matte overcoat on that, and they were done in a half hour. The paint DOES chip off where the wheel nut and the plastic scale hub screw on, but once all thats on the chrome disappears again. They look pretty good to me. |

i used the oven cleaner and it worked great on one set of wheels from my scx10. the other set had a different chrome (more of a gunmetal polish) and so far the oven cleaner hasn't made a dent. i really want those cleaned off because the wheel underneath is black, just what i wanted.
