Default Lexan shell project. Too ambitious?

I got a new shell for my CC 01 and I'm now trying to decide on a paint job for it.
I'm wondering weather to have a go at a scale look that will weather/ damage more realistically.
i.e. rust colour inside, silver on the outside with top colour over the top.
Can anyone give me some pointers on doing this type of paint job or any potential pitfalls or problems I may encounter?
I'm ok with painting lexan shells but I'm just wondering how difficult this look may be or if this may be a bit ambitious considering I've not got lots of experience in this type of project.
Thanks guys.
