Question Faskolor Faskrome backing?

Hey all, noob here. Painting my first Lexan body, a '56 Nomad. I'm painting the chrome details.

My question is this: What color should I back the Faskolor Faskrome with? I want it to be bright and pop, so would white do the trick? The guy at my LHS told me it would fade the krome to use white. What do you guys say?

Thanks!

Not sure how well Faskrome works, I have always used Spazstix chrome. But if you back it with white it will be bright but black would make it more chrome and be deep which really pops.

Thank you Jwalker; I will back it with black as that's two votes for black and none for white.

Yes black will make it look more like real world chrome. I have used the Fascolor and you need to have several coats as you want it good and chrome before you back it. It's more translucent than it looks.

Slight thread jack....kinda

Hey jwalker-I assume that goes for the rattle cans as well? The spazstix site says to back with water based paint. Is that what you use?

Trying to figure out if I need to do 2 colors of backing.
The body will be spazstix Chrome and pactra metallic blue. I planned on backing both colors with white until I saw this thread.
Thanks for any help

Yes it must be water based paint or you can get the spazstix chrome clearcoat and you could use the spazstix black backer or tamiya. I have mostly just used Faskolor or Createx paint. You get best results with the Spazstix chrome if you spray a preety good coat and then heat it up with a hairdrier and repeat about 4-5 times. This all works with the rattle can or airbrush. Here are a couple of bodies I did for myself that was with Spazstix chrome but it was backed with white because I wanted it bright.

Thanks man. I have those pics of you bugs saved, actually those were the inspiration for mine!
I'm doing chrome flames outlined with red and a metallic blue body...i think. I need to back the metallic with white though to get it to pop right? I may just back both colors with white instead of trying to do black over chrome and white over blue. That would be kind of a PITA with the flames (for me anyway). I want it to be blindingly bright, so white may be the ticket for backing color it sounds.

Thanks for the help!

It will be bright for sure, it got alot of attention at the comp I did it for. I would mask off the flames, spray the blue but I would rather use silver backer to give is a better metallic look, then do the red stripe unless you are going to do the outline of the flames more faded and then do the chrome and then back it with white. The blue will be bright but it will be deeper looking and stand out from the flames which is the best way to go.
