| Bad idea.
I bought a new body this weekend and got it all painted up. I decided I wanted to tint the windows and had some vhs nightshades in my cabinet that I used to tint the headlights and tail ligjts of my old car. It ended up bleeding through the body paint and splotching up the whole paint job. Acutually doesnt look too bad but I figured I'd forewarn people just in case anyone had the same idea. that is why it is recommended to do a test panel first - so you dont ruin a new body. and there is a "smoke" window tinting paint made specifically for lexan, just for future reference. Last edited by heartless; 03-16-2013 at 05:50 AM. |

Tamiya smoke, incredibly light coats (dustings), hair dryer in between. Works every time. Thanks for the warning though!

It actually doesn't look half bad once I get over the fact that its not what I was going for. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2 |

you shouldve backed the white first with silver or white .assuming you didnt by the looks of the bleed through.let it dry then dusted the coast with drying in between

Will keep that inind for next time. I think it looks kind of cool the way it is, just doesnt match my full size like the original plan. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2 |

...or maybe consider tinting tape, you can buy it pretty much at any auto store and have many tint % to chose from, you can't screw up when using a sticky tape. you have enough even in the smallest roll to practice so much you'll become an expert at it.

an airbrush is not a necessity - rattle can products work just fine when the proper products, and steps, are used. In this case, you used a product that wasnt compatible, and possibly sprayed too soon and/or too heavily. there are plenty of guys/gals that do amazing paint jobs with nothing but rattle can paints and some very complicated designs too. It can be done with preparation and a little patience. (thinking maybe the "patience" part is key here? ) |
