Paint it on the inside with Pactra paint.

What the previous post said it will still get scrtches from use believe me I actually took rust colored paint and sprayed it into a cup until u have enough to work with took a brush and painted rust vulnerable areas to which the particular car u are painting has in real life then I let it dry and jusy sprayed my regular coat of paint looks really realistic. But if its scratches you want runjing through areas where a lot of limbs will do that. Id paint inside if u run rough terrain itll eventually scratch so bad it doesnt look realistic and itll be clear ahain. Just my two cents worth tho

I decided to paint on the inside. I didnt want to deal with the paint coming off. Only part i painted outside was the hard top and the interior bec i wanted a flat look to it like oem. i stuff it up a little and spray some adhesion promoter then spray flat black.

A few coats on the outside is hard to scratch off.
I paint mine on the outside with a different base color on the inside.

I'm not crazy about the look of the plastic over paint look.

Amen^^^! I do the same. I'm more of a beater look guy. I spray the inside a bit of silver, primer red and a bit of rust paint. Then I paint the outside whatever color I want and give it a few coats. It does not come off easily and don't exactly drive like its a shelf queen. The end result is some scale scratches and scuffs showing "metal" (new damage) "rust" (old damage) and red primer (between new/old damage that was a poor attempt a repair). I also use a razor knife to mimic a cracked windshield.

Yes. Rustoleum professional primer. I also use the gray primer too. I don't use it often. If I do use it, I don't use a lot unless I'm going for that "customer didn't pay for body work, so it will sit with gray and red primer all over it, waiting for customer to pay for body work amd paint job" look.

Here's the final touch. I opt for paint on inside and paint on outside only for the flat black such as top and interior. My 1st scale project so bear with me.

The paint is actually made by pactra. I picked it up from a LHS earlier today along with a black backing paint to make the paint pop more.

I prefer to paint the outside. I paint the inside as well, but painting the outside brings a whole new level to the detailing possibilities.

The backing black works no differently than backing it with the regular black, silver etc. I never use the backing paints directly on lexan as they tend to flake and chip. Regardless of if it's a backing paint or normal polycarbonate paint, When you back with a lighter color (White or silver) it will lighten the main color (Pactra Indy Silver is one I use often). When you back with a black, it deepens and darkens the main color.

It looks great! If you'd backed it with a lighter color you'd have a lighter final product and I dont think it would be as classy.

i was at a crawler meet yesterday and i met a guy who painted the inside black, and the outside a primer color, i asked him why he did this and he told me that when the exterior paint scratches the black is revealed, after he competed in the comp and he had some scratches it still looked really cool
