Default Lexan body paint Q.....

looking for that "flat black" look on the fender flares of a lexan body.

- Do I paint the outside of the body with flat black paint? seems like it would scratch and chip off very easily. If I do this- what type of paint shoud I use?

- Do I paint under the body black; then use a light grit sandpaper to "scuff up" the shiny body? I have tried this- looks OK; but I would like a more factory look.

- Any other options/opinions.

BTW: I am rattle canning this one so airbrush really isnt an option.

was thinking of that too... any ideas on what type of paint? I have Testors flat black hobby spray- will that work/stick? Maybe BBQ high heat black from a hardware store (just thinking it may be more durable.).

thanks.

you have to use a paint designed for lexan or it will flake off when flexed. there are several RC paints out there. most of which are flat and rely on the clear body for the Gloss look they have.

Pactra, faskolor, tamiya to name a few

You could paint the inside of the body and then sandblast the outside. Just mask off the the rest of the body that you want to stay shiny. If you can get acssess to a sand blaster. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like it will work.

oddly enough i do have a blast cabinet in my garage- but I would think that was be a bit... lets say- dangerous. hold it for one sec too long and now you have a hole where the fender flare used to be. I am trying the outside the body paint method. I will post pics when done.
