Default what to back a translucent paint with

Howdy, painting up a wraith body for the wife she wants the Tamiya PS39 (trans light blue) should I back it with silver or white, what what do you recommend using for the most brilliant finish color?

Thanks!

Back it with Bright Silver, PS-41.

Spray very thin coats and make sure you get an even finish. The translucent paints are kinda weird.

Once you have the blue on back it with ps12 silver so it has a solid back. The light silver is almost transparent.

I think I'll try the solid backing color, I've got some scrap lexan to test on, should be interesting!

Wouldn't gold turn it in to Green'ish ? My vote is for White, Silver will work too but the result might be dull when there's no light sources ( Sunlight, Spotlight ) around

The silver will make it pop and the color would shift. If youbeant to get really creative you can spray the candy blue, pit a paint mask on, spray the white the pull the mask iff and finishbwith silver. It will give the design of the paint mask a really cool disappearing effect when younshift it in the light, I have done that on several bodies to have a ghost flame effect.

Trans paint are very unique, because you can get very artistic with color variations. By using different color trans paints overlapping different body sections, you can get a blended effect and you can still use a backer afterwords to finish it off. In the past, I've combined Candy Plum (discontinued I think) with the translucent metal flake pearl white, and backed with black and it turned out like a very rich Cran-blueberry color. I've also done a couple of green/teal/blue blends and red/orange blends, all backed with silver to give a metallic look to them.

Here's a simple Candy Yellow backed with metallic silver. The pics are kinda dull, because this is much brighter in person, think "French's Mustard" yellow with a metal flake finish.

To answer your original question, PS12 solid backer. Try the blue on scraps first so you can layer it to the shade your wife likes.

Here is what I was talking about. The flames are backed with Tamiya ps12 and body backed with white. It flips depending on the angle and light, they are on the sides as well.

This is trans red backed with gold. I assume it will turn your blue as green as it turned my red orange. Not much at all, even less if you back it all with black.
