Default Tips? - reamer and clean body mount holes

Does anyone have tips on using the reamer and creating clean body mount holes?

I find there is a lot of material pushed inside the body, leaving a rather jagged hole. I trim the jagged bits, but it's still not real clean.

Thanks.

Cut from both sides. Start your ream from one side, then flip and cut from the other side, little at a time until you get near the right dimension. Most hobbyshops sell tube sanders (sandpaper glued around a cardboard straw) in various sizes, to clean up the holes.

I've only ever done about 3-4 bodies but I've never used a reamer for making post holes. A 1/4" drill bit has always worked and leaves nice clean holes.

Dremel sanding bits and drums are great tools for smoothing out rough lexan cuts. The egg shaped bits are best for holes of course and the drums are great for smoothing wheel wells and jagged areas.

If you're getting really jagged holes with a body reamer, it sounds like you're taking too big of a bite. Go slow and take light cuts and you should be fine. I only go in from one side and never have problems with burrs.

Good luck!

Good tips.

I'll go slower and try some sanders to finish things up.

I would think the drill bits would twist up the lexan and turn areas white. I'll try it on some scrap bits first.

Thanks.

X2. I bought nice smal reamer with machined aluminum handle, screw on cap, and shallow taper, perfect for body holes. Reamers that enlarge the holes very quickly due to more taper don't make holes as nice, clean and controlled.

As someone said, don't force it in too fast as this can make holes jagged too.

Practice on some clear 2 liter soda bottles. Then you can also practice that crazy paint job you've always wanted to try too.
