Default "How to?" Matte Black

Purchased new body for Yett TT and would like to paint it matte black. How do I go about doing this? All othe paint jobs I've done have been gloss finish and would like to do something different this time around. I'm sure one of you paint wizards has an answer for me! Right?! 👍

You would have to paint it from the outside with matte black paint, or use a matte clear coat.

If you paint it on the outside with matte black, also paint it on the inside so that when you get scrapes you don't see daylight through the lexan. Many people use a rusty color for realism. Or - you could just use more black.

I have had great success with Rust-oleum Painter Touch 2x Matte clear on a couple of Lexan bodys. Use your normal lexan black on the inside than use the clear on the outside, masking off the widows if you dont want them matte also.

Did you scuff up the outside of the body first? Or just apply over smooth clean lexan?

I applied straight on clean lexan. Do several light coats. One light coat will give you a kind of satin look, where as multiple coats will really matte it out.

Home Depot has a plastic paint that is primer/paint, they have a flat black that I have used on motorcycle plastics and has been very durable. Good flex as well as I have never had any cracking or pealing

Tamiya makes a matte clear coat for the outer portions of poly-carbonate/lexan bodies that you want like that. Obviously you would still need to paint the inside black.
