| Painting Metal Beadlock Wheels
I have the stock RC4WD Trail Finder 2 white beadlock wheels. I figured instead of spending money on buying the black version, I will just repaint it black. Items I have currently with me to do this: 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (to strip the white paint) Tamiya Fine Primer (for plastics and metal) Tamiya TS-29 (for plastics) I have plenty of experience using Tamiya paints on plastic but this will be my first time using them on metal. A few questions: 1) Is it even necessary to strip the paint or can i just prime and paint over them. 2) If I do require to strip the paint, how long will I need to leave the wheels in the 99% Isoprop. Thanks everyone! |

I don't know if alcohol even strips paint. Brake fluid or paint thinner are generally good methods. No need to strip the paint off, just scuff it up with some sand paper (enough to remove the shine) and spray away |

You want to remove the paint, 99% works well on many paints, lacquer and enamels . If that doesn't work, MEK will. once down to bare metal, wash with dawn and water, dry completely . Skuff with a green pad if you want, spray self etching primer. Then a coat of the Tamiya fine,Color , then clear. Unless you use a two part clear it will chip. You can get a two part aerosol though that works. http://www.repaintsupply.com/sprayma...sol-p3685.html I've painted a lot using decanted Tamiya TS colors and love them. I've found Tamiya primer (for metal and plastics) doesn't etch the metal as much as plastic does, that's why I use a self etching Hang up and Drive Last edited by mikemcE; 04-14-2017 at 09:31 PM. |

So after doing a bit of research, I removed all the wheels and soaked them in 99% isopropyl alcohol. I expect 24 hours should be enough to strip the paint and expose the bare metal. If you would like to see the results, I will post them on my SKUNKWORKS Build Log here: SKUNKWORKS - Gagak Rimang's Trail Finder 2 So subscribe to that and stay tuned! |

I used Etch less primer and sanded between coats of primer, when I painted a set 1.9'' Hutchinson aluminum bead locks Used a flat Camo color, too match my 1.9'' Wraith's chassis I painted OD Green Then shot some flat clear lacquer too seal the paint Last edited by kgb424; 12-11-2018 at 01:05 AM. |

I love those TSS wheels. I have a pretty nice set left. They are becoming rare. I sprayed mine down in the media cabinet, hit with self etching, then finished them off with some krylon and flat clear. Look great! Take your time and letting them dry for a few days really helps if you can hold off. |
