| "Chrome" removal
Afternoon all, Wondering if anyone has a trick to remove the chrome dip/paint from plastic/styrene? I'm pinching a Tamiya F350 grill and would like to paint black once completed. Thanks for any info... |

After a long time using Oven Cleaner to de-anodize alum parts and chrome from plastic rims i got tired of the smell and wait time. I switched to Greased Lightning for the Aluminum (15min and done) and Super Clean from the Auto Parts store for Chrome (20-30min soak and done). No smell and clean up with a toothbrush and warm soapy water and that's it. Wifey, GF, dog and cat all happy so win win. Just my .02 |

Hey, out of curiosity Why does everyone worry so much about removing the Chrome when they are painting anyways? I have found that using Rustoleum for plastic covers the Chrome nicely and if I scratch Deep enough to remove the paint it usually goes right through the Chrome as well. I usually lately Scuff the Chrome first with a fine grit sanding sponge. |
