Its funny you mention McConells Mill. I was thinking of that place earlier today. I used to fish there all the time. I emailed the State park system in general earlier today asking about any state parks that are comparable to Ohiopyle with the rocks and readily available parking. Also, on the way back from Sam Lewis, I stopped off in another ol' fishing spot of mine, Linn Run state park, just past Ligoner. I stopped in at the office and asked a few questions. She said the park is small, so what you see is what would be usable. So not much there. However, see sent me up to the Dept. of Foresty HQ, about 5 minutes up RT.30 past Laughlintown. About 5 min from downtown Ligoner. I stopped in there and talked to the forest ranger and the person in charge of the state forest land. He was really cool and loved the trucks I showed him. He was pretty excited about something so cool. As I don't know the forest, he does. I asked if he could recommend a spot or two that would meet our specs, parking and a possible nearby restroom. He said he knew of a couple of places and will get back to me once he throws it past his boss. His boss got back to me and said having something in the Foresty area would be no problem. He is going to get back to me once again, because I asked for a couple of pics of the areas he would recommend. No problem. Its fairly close to us, its about an hour plus of a drive to the forest area. So now I'm waiting to see what he comes up with. Another spot that might have some spots would be Moraine State park. I haven't been there for sometime, but it is near McConnell's mill. I wish I was into crawling when I was fishing a lot. I've been to every state and local park between Rt.80 and WV, but never looked for rocks. |

The first one Bilger's in Clearfeild, does look pretty cool. (The Jurassic Park music is kinda creepy) Looks like a bunch of rocks that need massaged by a few MOAB's and Rock Claw's. |

McConnels Mills was ok when Lewis, MzRuby and I went. Great for 2.2s, crappy for Supers. Rockbound, if you're up for it, next weekend hit me up and we will go scout. I have a line on a good spot that Dad filled me in on. |

Yep, knox is near clarion. ~15 mins west depending on how you go. Clarion is like exit 64 (old exit 9) or something on 80, and knox is something like exit 53 (old exit 7). Thats where I grew up, my parents live there. I still visit them on holidays, vacation time, and some weekends now and then. Unfortunately, I live and work out in Edison NJ, about 6hrs from Knox..... ugh. Im trying to get back to the Clarion area, or down to Roanoke VA. I will have to try and meet up with you guys some weekend when Im home in PA. I wont be back to PA until the first weekend in October, Autumn Leaf Festival in Clarion!!!! That, and I need to take the chrome wheels off my car for winter storage and put the stockers back on. Its a shame Im not home more often, less than 1/4 miles up the road from my parents is the old TMC motorcross race track. Perfect for crawling some of the hills, with lots of cool jumps and mud holes. Used to ride bike, 4wheelers, dirt bikes, and run R/C's up there all the time. | |

Those look like some real nice spots. If I'm not mistaken some of those places in Dunbar are the other side of Casparis. I know you can get to Dunbar from Connellsville without touching pavement...if you can make it.

I took a ride up to McConnells Mill yesterday and I checked out the whole park. I think the only thing that could happen there would be a small GTG. There is not enough parking. It would be an IDEAL location for a few people and a trail run. Down by the trail heads/rocks there are about 5 parking spots, otherwise you would have to use the parking lot up above and car pool down. Moraine State Park/Lake Arthor I didn't see a single location. I'm sure you could find a trai, but no rocks. I know the park pretty well from fishing there and nothing with any rocks. My next trip, I'd like to check out North Park and whatever else is near by. |
