I too just ordered the HPI reduction unit for my PTI Goliath. Hope it works, without too much modification needed.

| Got gear reduction??
I installed the HPI gru last night. It fits great!! I did have to clearance the front pad that holds my esc and the body pins. I still need to clean up my wiring and take it for a test run..... |

One word of advice; brace up the motor. The PTI motor bracket will flex under load and cause the gear alignment to change. If you do it too much you will strip gears. You can come up with fancy brackets, or just a ziptie under the motor. I don't have a picture, so I'll try my best to explain my setup. Take the gear reduction/motor out. Take two zip ties and make a very loose circle around the chassis rails. So that it looks like this when viewed from the end: --------------- (...[] ...........[]...) --------------- (sorry for the poor ascii art) Now place the gear reduction/motor onto the zip tie sling. There will be two zip ties under the motor. After you get the gears aligned again tighten up the zip ties. Last edited by estill; 01-20-2009 at 08:43 AM. I dont think it will be a problem with the way I installed it. with the 12t pinion, the body of the gru is on the frame. also the back of the motor is on the platform for the esc. It doesnt move at all.

You'll be fine then. I'm using the GD600 with a brushless motor from Holmes Hobbies, and I was amazed how much mine flexed.

Holmes Hobbies sells an adapter. To be fair my Goliath is not a dedicated rock crawler. It is the MMT variety, and I geared it as a rock crawler so I could hand the controls over to my now 4 year old son. The sensorless brushless motor is fun, but I can see where it is not the best suited for rock crawling. |
