| ~53 Willys 2010 Fubar Bully Build~
I'm gonna rebuild my bully rig for 2010 season...I'm gonna be running another Fubar crawlers Prototype Chassis built to my specs. I have cut the first version side plates and then John @ Fubar Labs cut me a Skid slightly wider then a Skooter skid so I can fit my dual Holmes hobby BR-XL ESC's inside the chassis....the name of the game on this build is low mounted electronics and lots of belly clearance and no added weight in the wheels.. all my weight distribution will be with the cast vs billet axles and the delrin rear wheels vs the alum fronts... some build specs... Fubar Crawlers Prototype 53 Chassis RC4WD CAST B2 Bully axle Front (Shaved) RC4WD Billet B1 Bully Axle Rear (Shaved) 3.5" HPI shocks with Internal springs up front Mayhem Ultra light UCW's Delrin rear and alum front HSR5990TG steering with Robotronic arm Xirtic Inverted Steering Mount 1/4" SS steering link 1/4" SS upper and lower links Banzai 35T motors F&R Dual Holmes BR-XL ESC's 4PK and RX and in the FAMOUS words of JRH I'm gonna.. "Volt up! Gear down!" I bought some 4s 1000MAH lipos to comp with this bad boy...they are the same size as the 3s 1500mah lipos I been using PICS ARE LOADING UP NOW>>>> |

thanks guys and sorry for the delay the pics did not load up in time and I had to go pick my son up from preschool. no I have not given up on my worms...I just don't have the cash to run dual brushless on it yet and I need a 2010 rig READY for the 801 points series by jan 23 2010 so I had to put the worm on hold until the fund come up....most all the stuff I built this rig with was parts I had here at home.

here she is as a roller...I still gotta get the electronics in... and I'm redrilling and tapping the axle side shock mounts to lower it some I massaged my XVD's and axle tubes and knuckles for more steering angle..I'm not sure I can even use it...but it's waaaay more steering then before...I figure I will just bury the tires in the shocks and hope for the best pics of the steering angle coming in a couple hours I gotta go to work right now..... |

as for snow.. we got a pretty good amount of it..but you just can see it in the pics because I have to make sure ALL the snow is off those steps other wise they get CRAZY slick.

So here is some shots of the steering angle I was able to get after the massaging of the front axle and XVD's I sure love the Xirtic Steering servo mount....it's really cleaned up the front end..I did have to grind mine some to allow for the FULL steering throw with the modded XVD's but nothing to worry about it's still got plenty of beef left. I might flip the servo and run the "arm up" then run the Over and behind the axle steering link..but for now this will and should work great. here you can see how I ground out the knuckle and axle tube to allow for more clearance.. at this point the only thing I'm worried about is that I may have weakened the XVD's to much and they might break????? I'm gonna run them and see how long they last....maybe if they hold up SDS will make some high steering angle XVD's for the bully axles...or maybe rc axle master will mod his for more steering?? |

i to love the building aspect of it thats why i've had so many rigs in the past yr of doin this. so as i get them preform how i like them and start finishin top 15 or so at are comps i usally sell them. i too haven't finished my 1:1 in the 3 yrs that i've been workin on it . what did u do to the xvd's to get them to turn more, mine are at the binding point with knuckles at maxed turning point also have u tried to turn the knuckles around to get the above, behinde axle steering with the servo filped kinda like a berg setup?

What is the idea behind the Fubar 53 chassis? Looks like it would help where others might get high-centered. If you get it past the the 45% forward mark, the weight in your fronts would pull you forward while you slide over the obstacle. Interesting link geometry. Watching to see her in action! Nice build, thx for posting it. |

I have tried BTA on a bully and it's really not worth the effort unless you run a stick chassis...if you have shocks at all it pretty much screws your chance at a BTA when the knuckles are turn around backwards they steer right into the shocks...even if you shorten the knuckles I still think it would be to tight..? my new approach is to just keep it out front and try to get the tie-rod up outta the way best I can. thanks for the comments Quote:
the main idea was to get high clearance skid......BUT I also wanted to keep the rest of the rig and parts real low so I don't loose all my side hilling ability. the straight top side plates and almost shock high upper link mounts help keep the body mounted really low.. yeah it makes for some crazy links...but the suspension cycles really smooth..I cant wait to get it out in the rocks......when the snow melts..haha thanks for the comments

What's the articulation like? Kinda looks like a funky version of the TAG chassis. |
