| "SKOOTER" over for a new Bully build!
Well finally got some time to finish my new Bully build, it's only been a couple months in the works. Any way I have to say what a great product RC4WD has and what a great company to deal with as well! They have a customer for life! This build started out with me selling my previous comp rig.....cough....BeRg....cough. Once that was gone I contacted John(MTHead) at Fubar and ordered me up a Skooter, just really like how compact they are. Then with another click of the mouse it was off to RC4WD for a set of light weight Bully's. Mind you since I sold my Berg it was like having to start for scratch again, all I had let from it was the electronics. So had to still pick up tires, wheels, shocks and links. For the tires I went to TCS for white Rovers, wheels are VP SLW's, shocks I went for Traxxas big bores and links....well let's say I know people. I knew going into this build that it was going to be a challenge. The Skooter is very narrow and small chassis, then you add Bully's with their unique mounting set up, you do have to be creative. I also knew that I wanted to keep it light weight, under 6lbs. I definitely was on the right track! Once I received my Skooter I was very impressed with it's quality, beautiful workmanship! I really like the size and design, with just the right amount of options for link set up.(Although I'm keeping an eye on 53 Willy's build) Next I received the Bully's, and not unfamiliar with RC4WD's products, I was very impressed with them as well. Great quality and great packaging too. For now I don't think I'll do any mods to the knuckle and axles, tires get into the links already, but may do it down the road. I want to see how it performs first then start doing things one at a time. Next on the agenda was to start mocking it up, lower links first then the upper then the shocks. Got the links close to where I wanted to be then move on to the Big Bores. I discovered right a way that they weren't going to work in stock form, they were binding, even when I used fuel tubing, they were just at to much of an angle. So out came the Dremel do to the "cap mod". Once I got the mount cut off the cap, I drilled a hole for a 3mm button head screw and used the short Axial rod ends for that. Then took a 3/8" piece of fuel tubing and put it under the piston to limit the shock, I was trying to keep the shock at 3" - 3.5" eye to eye. Once all the mods were done, I filled the fronts with 30wt. and the rears with 35wt Losi oil, and installed Losi white springs. I knew that the whites were going to be to long, because of the limiting, but installed them anyway. Plan was/is to get some shorter Losi buggy springs. For now I just cut the whites down and we'll see how that works. Once I got it sitting on it's own, I went to the links for adjustment. I'm running some of my own lower links, R2J Phatty's, that I make for the AX10. They are 3/8" Delrin, high clearance with 4mm studs and Revo ends, they measure 5" eye to eye. Uppers are custom cut 5/16" with 4mm studs and Jato ends. I like to use the Jato ends for the uppers because it give me some room for adjustment in the length and for better clearance.Because of the narrow chassis, I ended up bending the uppers so that I could mount the links outboard giving me more room for electronics and battery. Seems to work really well, no binding, very smooth! I get into more of the tech once I get some pics up tonight. Forgot to bring the camera with me to work! DOH! But here's the rest of the goodies going into it. - Fubar Skooter Delrin chassis -Light weight Bully's - VP SLW's .700 w/725 front & 600 rear - White Rovers - Nova two stage foams (the best) - Mamba Max - CC BEC - Big Bores w/ cap mod & Losi whites - DX3R - Futaba 9157 servo - Punk dig - Integy 45 turn front & rear - 3 cell 1320 Lipos - Losi LCC body Last edited by R2j; 02-02-2010 at 07:19 AM. |

| Thanks Ethan! I can't wait to get it out on the rocks! Going to try real hard to get down to HTW this weekend. And hopefully do some testing Wednesday. I have to give props to Vanquish for making such an out standing product! For those of you that don't or have owned a set of their wheels, your missing out! And those who do have them, you know what I'm talking about! To mount them all I did was loosely installed the rings, slipped them into the Rovers and then easily slid the bead in, vela! Tighten the screws and done! I'll never use another wheel again! I'll get some pics of them installed when I get all done, have to put some weight in the fronts. |

Way to go Shon. Rig looks killer, I like the uppers on the outside. I think the pics look great. I thought the Chizels would be what you CO guys would be running over there. |

| Thanks Rory! Nope, I bet there's a good 90 - 95% of us that run White Rovers. They hook the best here.

Here is the BLING! Added 4.25oz to each front and nothing in the rear. Body shot, got to get some paint on it. Basic black most likely. Pretty skinny! |

| I am going to do Cast front/Machined rear though, and I've got my Karnage V2 chassis being cut for it once I actually get the axles. I do like the shocks that mica has on his rig (RC4WD Spark shocks) and he seems to like them. I like the ball end on both sides too. Rover White dots are the way to go out here. Tom (cruzinillusions) tried the pink rover ex's and different foam set-ups, etc, and couldn't find anything that the white rovers couldn't do, and there were a lot of lines the pinks couldn't do, but the whites could. I hope to have the bullies after I get back from Vegas, but that's not until April... The AX has seen it's time, I've tuned the crap out of it, but against the guys that drive here, (unless you're SparkyJ) an AX isn't gonna cut it. Edit: just saw you added weight to your front wheels, but that's why I wanted the cast front axles, adds the weight in the axle, and not on a rotating wheel. I also thought of the sparks, but still had a new set of big bores laying around. I did get a chance to see Mica's and they are sweet! Quote:
