Default Grad School Budget Bully

This is going to be a long term build since I will be piecing it together as funds come in. Also my first venture into 2.2. Next thing I'm saving for is a new radio

RC4WD V Chassis
RC4WD Aluminum Beadlocks
X-locks
Titanium Shaft single spring aluminum shocks (RC4WD)
M2 Dig 3S Dual Brush ESC Novak (ordered, waiting for it's release)
45t Novaks
Hitec HS-7955TG
CC BEC
3s LiPo
VW body

Thanks for looking

Looks like a good start, however you might be waiting awhile on that M2 dig. I will be running it too but for now I went with a Rooster Crawler and a punk dig till Novak actually brings the M2 to market.

Looking good!!! You might look into The Spetrum DX3E for a $100 it is a 3ch. radio and comes with a servo and a receiver, the only other thing i would change right off would be your tires for a set White dot Rovers

The DX3E's are nice radio's (we've got 4 of'm for our kids program) but the dig switch is in an un-conveniant spot on the radio. Not like the others where you can program the switch on the thumb side of the grip, it's actually on the back of the radio above the grip. If you're trying to steer while using dig (alternating back and forth) it would be impossible.
Great scaler radio, if you want the 3rd pos. to operate a winch or something else.

Actually its really easy to use the 3rd channel and steer. I use my thumb from the throttle hand to operate dig. Your hand just has to get use to it and helps if you have bigger hands then a kid.

So things are moving slowly.
Got a brand new set of white dot rovers for 19.98 (all four for that price w/ foams)
Scrapped the M2 and bought a refurbished Rooster and punk.
Drilled all of the stock wheels to vent them.
Ordered a DX3E
Machined rear tubes and gearbox
Painted the bug too

Now I need to get a decent 2c battery and charger. Any suggestions?

Wired and still clean and shiny before the first crawl session!

Just in time for the end of comp season . . . So I'll just be tuning and practicing my driving. Also I picked up a Moonbuggy chassis along the way. . . I might see what I can do with that!

Thoughts after the first day:

1. First of all the front tire foams are WAY to soft. I was running the stock foams that come with the rovers. I knew they were soft, but they were so soft they were inhibiting the motors from turning on the front. For now, to keep it cheap, I'm going to put the X-locks stock RC4WD foams in.

2. Body placement needs to be back a bit. I've trimmed and trimmed body away but these big old tires keep rubbing.

3. 3-cell would be better. . . Anyone got a good deal on a Mamba Max?!

4. Stock steering linkage needs to be changed.

5. Servo running very hot (not running a BEC currently because I can't figure out how to wired it in) so I'm being very careful. It hit 100 degrees outside today and so that with the extra power caused overheating fairly quick.

As for the axles themselves, the seem great! I'm running a cast front end and a machined rear for a very weight distribution. They are working great. I'm going to run this set up a bit more to get used to the MOA set up and running 2.2 and then I may switch to the Moonbuggy to get that rear clearance.

Ran a bit more today. . . the Servo is over heating, REALLY BAD (literally burned myself on it and I can't afford to fry it). I've done some searching around in the electronics menu (using the search option) as well as the noob section and can't find what I'm looking for. I presume its the fact that the voltage is too high that is causing the servo to over heat and I need a BEC (if not I'm totally lost)?!

I've got a BEC however I dont' understand how to wire it. . . It has the positive and negative end as well as a aux end for the rx. I know guys are running these with a 3 channel radio but how is it supposed to be wired?! Any help would be appreciated!

Also I understand it is programable however I don't have the cable to program it. . . what voltage is it set for new?!

OR is my servo just not powerful enough?

Still learning and I appreciate the help.

A heat sink might help your servo.
It could be that you need a better servo. What kind do you got.

I have always wired my BEC to the esc. I only used the red and black. I set mine at 6v.
