Default Tomy's Bully 2

Being busy with so many things all autumn has had me neglect my Bully 2 build. But here it is finally started!

I did a sligthly revised edition of the Sudu Pro chassis specific for this build. It features a rounded cab for improved roll over recovery and a one piece skid plate. I see I will probably have to mess a little bit with the shock mounting holes to make them better fit the Bully 2 geometry.

Chassis weighs in a 49.9g.

And here with Bully 2 axles and a few NCD acessories mounted. Lower links are stainless steel prototypes. Uppers are cf links from my XR10. Shocks are SCX with Egressor bodies. Eye to eye length is 92mm. Weight as pictured is 814g.

I've been waiting to see this build. I like the look of the more rounded cab and one piece skid. Looking forward to see how this progresses.

How long is that drag link?

Cheers eh,

Todd

Awesome Tomi... I really like the new one The skid turned out great glad you liked the design If I'm not mistaken the skid is raised up 3mm for more clearance and the skid sits into the chassis .5mm for a little extra clearance while not having it sit all the way into the skid causing the CF to slide Looking forward to seeing how the new one is and definitely considering picking up the new one

Thanks, guys!

I am afraid for now this is a one off chassis. I am not planning to make it available to the public at the moment.

@ Everett
Thanks for pushing me to do the one piece skid.
Only concern is how well the threads in delrin will hold up to repeated wrenching. I have had bad experiences in the past with all derin skid plates and threads stripping.

@ Tossedman
The drag link measures 54mm eye to eye. If you have the RC4WD steering kit, you need to add a 4mm tall spacer to make the drag link right length for the NCD servo mount.

Tomi, any thoughts of making a chassis specifically for these axles, perhaps wider so you don't need to extend to upper shock mounts? You'd corner the market if you did.

Sorry, Todd, at the moment no. This will be for my personal use only. I would love to, but with my limited resources I have enough work with making the parts I already have out for sale. The next few months will be busy at my day job as well so I'm trying to keep my head above water.

I think the Bully 2 link and shock geometry is close to other axles on the market and personally I see no need for a specifically wide chassis for these axles. I prefer a narrower chassis as it gives you the option of fine tuning shock mounting width with spacers. I would not go much narrower than 40mm between chassis plates though.

I actually went and measured the width between shock mounts on the XR10 axles and got 117.5mm center to center. With my currenct setup on the Bully 2 axles I have a distance of 113mm between shocks on the front axle. This is how I have my shocks mounted on the axles and spaced out at the chassis.

Front shocks mounted on the axle and chassis. I use a 4mm spacer + Traxxas conical alloy balls to space out the shocks up front.

Rear shocks mounted at the axle and chassis. I use a 6mm alloy spacer + a RC4WD conical washer to space out the shocks at the rear.

Thanks for that Tomi. Makes perfect sense. Also, thanks for sharing your setup. I'm pretty new to all of this and all this kind of info is a great help.

No probs. My pleasure.

I am not sure I am fully up to date with other MOA chassis on the market today. But from the top of my head, if you are looking for a wider chassis, I believe the T1E chassis is worth looking into. It is constructed the other way around with a smaller and narrow lower chassis and has the shock mounts and cab in separate cf plates which are mounted wider apart.

Did a titanium steering linkage out of 4mm rod today.

Was it worth the trouble? Probably not.
A total weight savings of 3.2g and a few millimeters of added clearance.

What size rod do you plan to use?

i have been using 3/16 aluminum rod and cutting 10-32 threads on them
3/16 = 5mm and the revo/jato rod ends can be used easily. i run a tap through the rod ends to
make it easier to thread the rod ends on. i cut 9/16 worth of threads on the rods since i use the jato ends

(thanks to beerman for his assistance)

and a happy new year to you all

3/16" 7075, threaded 10-24. Im actually hoping it will clear with less bends, though it will need a little massaging. A straight rod is very close to clearing.

And of course Im out of rod.....sigh

I tried with a 3mm thick straight rod. It would almost work mounted in the stock position. A straight rod will work but needs to be spaced up so that it sits higher. But then it will most likely interfere with your battery if you have it mounted on the front axle. It will probably fit in the stock position if angled rod ends are used.

Todd, I'm not having any issues with shock clearance using Tomy's servo mount, I have my shocks attached directly to the inner chassis vertical plates with only a 2mm beveled spacer, only to help the eye move more freely. I had to use long shocks and sit them right back, but it works well now, check out my thread, if you need more detailed pics I can provide.

Sorry for the hijack Tomy.

Tomy this looks great. I really like what you have done with this so far. I like the new rounded cab on the topper. You think you can do for us XR SuDu drivers should we want?

RC4WD is very lucky to have you on their team to show what can be done with a mix of RC4WD and NCD gear.

I look forward to new development's and see some footage of this in action.

Do you know what elects and tyre combo you going to try on this?
