Default RC4WD cast yota axles strength rating.

on a "1 to 10" scale, how would you rate these axles as far as durability in all aspects such as trail/mid level crawling capabilties? i just recently run up on a set of these and was wandering about their strengths. i have heard that rc4wd scale axles are not that strong. but what does "not that strong" relate to? are they as strong as a stock set of axial ax10's or venom axles? are they set for failure from the begininng? i know that by looks, these are some of the baddest ass scale looking axles i have ever seen. i have always been fond of 1:1 toyotas and their capabilities compared to size. how do these compare to other axles like the t-60's and comp type axles? like i said, i have a brand new set of these yota axles and would really like to run them. but if they are destin for failure i might have to part with them.

lol. I just voted not on 3s cause when I put mine on 3s with a 45 turn I stripped the ring gear. But that was unshimmed and with the old original aluminum lockers cause mine are old billets. I don't think the billet housings have much of a strength advantage over cast. I'm pretty sure with pinion shim to tighten mesh and the fact that the new axles come with steel lockers make them bad mam-a-jamas.

P.S. it kinda sucks I paid $240 for my billets but had to spend $80 more to replace old POS aluminum llockers. Yes. they have lasted but it's just the thought "cheaper" axles come standard with them. But I'll always be a RC4WD customer.

Why do you need to start a poll?

I've been running them with good results on my 8lb+ OG Yota as well as my Unimog. I'd recommend upgrading to the XVDs for trouble free performance. They are not as durable as the Axials but better than TLT's. Great scaler axle in my opinion. Make sure you use good lube on the gears and keep the backlash to a minimum by shimming if needed.

Edit: Runnung 3s on both. Mog has a 35t, Pitbulls, and geared 41:1. Yota was running Novak 18.5, Flashpoints and geared 45:1.

Chino drives his junk pretty hard.

They are plenty good for trail bashing and whatnot, if you abuse them, something will give eventually just like anything.

I usually run mine with a 27T on 2s with 1.55 slingers, I think the small tire is why the aluminum lockers lasted long. Ran my truck pretty hard on rock, laval rock, and trough mud.

But I have no worries about strength when I run the new set up which will be 45T on 3s rolling on either Proline TSL/SX, 1.7 IROKS or 4.19 Baja Claws.

My Hilux, there's a few pics of what this truck goes through.

Dean is absolutely brutal on his scalers. If they can hold up to his abuse the common enthusiast will not have an issue. As far shimming goes I would double check the shimming regardless if they are brand new or not. I have had a few sets of these and have done plenty of scale crawling and have not had a problem with any of them. Granted I am a lot nicer to my scalers...I drive it like a scale truck, not like a comp rig.

I have not really messed with them that much..there seems to be more play on the Front Axle at the output on mine...Whats this shim placement I am reading about... Getting ready to break them down to grease from stock.. Shim inside axle?

shimming the pinion to where it increases the contact it makes with the ring gear giving less lash or play in the two.

kind of like setting up your spur and motor gear to set the play between the gears.

I have a set of these axles but I have not used them yet . Is it a kit for the shims or is it something you have to fab your self.

My ring and pinion didn't last long on these axles, only using 2s lipo on a 35T motor. Just shimmed up the replacement gears, hopefully they last longer.

Same here. I am on my 3rd set of front gears with these axles.
First set was due to factory powder coating defect not letting the 3rd member seat on the axle housing flush.
Second set was shimmed and lasted less than 3 hours on a 6lbs 1.55 F-Toy. Geared down with 3S lipo and 35turn motor.
We'll see how long the 3rd set lasts. Lets just say a spare gear set is about to get ordered.
No issues with rear axle.

I've run 2 pairs if yota axles with zero problems. I've also run k44s and comped with them. Not sure if they're the same internally though.

My front axle had a lot of slop in it to. I just flip the inside and outside shims around. The one on the outside was twice as thick as the one on the inside.
So far so good!!!

I've been running mine using a 21T Traxxas 550 motor on 3S. No issues after 15 packs or so.
