Default 2013 Rules

OFFICIAL LINK

95% of the rules will remain exactly the same as 2011 and 2012.

Big changes will be...

1)Body/Bodiless Requirements
In 2.2 Pro, 1.9, and Super Bodies and Bodiless will have the same specs in each class respectively. Measurement is the smallest dimension in the class, so nothing should be made illegal.

Super Crawler class vehicles must be 12" overall length, 3" overall width, and 3" overall height.

2.2 Crawler class vehicles must be 8" overall length, 3" overall width, and 3" overall height.

1.9 Crawler class vehicles must be 6.75" overall length, 2.5" overall width, and 2.75" overall height.

Requirements for hoods, roofs, and sides will remain for all vehicles. Basically just take the requirements for bodiless and apply it to all vehicles. For 99% of the drivers this will be enough info...the one percenters looking for an exploit will have to wait while try covers all the bases

2) Straddle

The old straddle rule will be removed. In the past the straddle rule had a very specific meaning, and a very precise moment when it was called.

6.8 - Straddle: A gate is considered straddled if at any time the axle of a vehicle (facing in any direction) passes over any part of a gate marker and both tires of that axle are touching the ground (or any object on the ground) on opposite sides of the gate markers, it is considered a straddle and a Gate Marker penalty is assessed.

That precise moment is what going way.

Drivers still get progress the same way

▪ 7.2.1 - A gate is considered cleared when at least one front and one rear wheel passes between the two gate
markers, and all four tires are past the gate in the intended direction of the gate.

You will STILL be given a penalty if you don't get 4x tire between the gates.

▪ 7.2.6 - If one wheel from the front axle and one wheel from the rear axle passes between two gate markers
(vehicle straddles a gate), that gate is considered a cleared gate. This however will result in a Gate Marker penalty of 10 points and a gate progress bonus is awarded.

The red will be removed, but it still doesn't change the meaning.

If course designers don't want "Straddles" to occur they will have to use taller gates

3) 2.2 Shafty: No Change.
Still must run a body!
Bodies must be 3” minimum height on sides. No less than 12.5”
total length and full original width, and no less than 5” in center.

I keep getting PMs about Sportsman Body/Bodiless and my thoughts are its up to the clubs to decide which direction. Some clubs will run it as a pure beginners classes and others clubs might view it as a stepping stone to 2.2 Shafty. My advice is to make your club rules accordingly.

I'm sure people are not asking about on the local level, but on the national level.

I am not aware of any National Level Sportsman comps being organized. However if someone wanted to organize an event it would be up to them.

So does this mean that the Sportsman rules set is no longer going to be included in the USRCCA 2013 rules?

We can leave it...I just don't to be put in charge of regulating it because it should be IMO a club decision.

Fish quick question.

Raises the question of a gate penalty and straddle. Ie if I hit the left gate and then also straddle it to get progress is that two penalties or one. It always used to be called 1 penalty.

Thx.

You hit the gate, it is dead. No penalty for the straddle.

Thanks for your quick reply, Fishmaxx!

I also want to take the chance to say that you have really taken the communication regarding the 2013 rules to the next level compared to previous years. Very open and transparent communication.

The heads up thread is IMO very important for both drivers and vendors. Something I'd like to see in the coming years also.

Even if it is not your concern, you are in fact setting the rc rock crawling rules for most parts of the world. I believe all major countries where rc crawling is popular uses the USRCCA rules set.

Will the requirements for how to fasten the body to the chassis also be unified between bodiless/bodied vehicles?

The rule:
"▪ 2.1.5.1.3 - Body panels must be solidly installed in a manner that is representative of a 1:1 vehicle."

Does not apply to the floppy body in this video in my opinion:

Good question

There were a few similar little tweaks that came up during the unification of body/bodiless, and thats the kinda\stuff we are still working out.

If minimum body/bodiless dimensions are now the same, why not allow bodiless in 2.2 Shafty?

Not trying to start a fire, just an honest question.

Everything is the same.

One Penalty

The only thing that is going away is the Straddle Penalty that gets called immediately when the axle is over the ball and both tires from that axle are on the ground no matter what else happens.

Now you can park on top of the gate without penalty as long as you don't touch it, and you still have to get 4 tire between the gates before making progress.

So if you straddle a gate, reverse to get a better position, then proceed with all 4 between the gates you get progress and only a reverse penalty, correct?

Body dimensions in 2.2 Shafty didn't change, they are much bigger. Not sure anyone would want run a 3 minimum height on sides. No less than 12.5 total length and full original width, and no less than 5 in center bodiless chassis.

Either way the committee voted on it, and we kept the same.
