| REDCAT RS10 clone - need your help
Hi all, my name is Roland and I come from Europe / Austria. Since this week I have a new crawler, called JP Rock Crawler 1/10 and is sold in germany from a company called J. Perkins. For me, it looks like it's the same as the REDCAT RS10 - but please have a look at your own (also on the detail photos)... http://www.jp-deutschland.de/Shop/rc-cars/rocky-110-ep-rtr-rockcrawler.html Now the two motors are 370/380 types, and looks like they have much power, but I think the torque is too less... because when you go very slow, most of the time the back tyres stand still while the front ones are spinning... I've made a short video, please have a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVxdK8Te1Po I have one ESC with four connectors, meas 2 for each motor. What can I change, to solve this problem? Have you got the same problems with the REDCAT RS10? I've tried to read a lot of the other threads here in this forum, but I didn't find the answer until now. Hope you can give me a little tip... all the best, Roland |

You are experiencing clod stall. Almost every duel motor truck with one esc has it. Do a search for 'clod stall', you can find a couple ways to fix it.

Yeah, that looks identical to an RS10. I would imagine pretty similar parts also. Take a look around at the clod stall posts and you should be able to take care of that problem. I started a post about the RS10's that has plenty of suggestions for upgrades and whatnot. The link for that is: Redcat RS10 revisited |

Hi, wow good speed here in this forum Thank you for your tip for "clod stall" - I'm not so good in english, but i think clod stands for the tamiya Clodbuster? Is this correct? Some of the thread i've read ends with, take this or this motor and you fix the problem to 99%... thats my problem, how can I put a 540 Motor in the little hole where the 370 motor is? Next problem, I don't know any 540 motor which has a 2,1mm diameter motor shaft... So how can I get a compatible pinion gear? Do you know anyone who works with a brushless in the redcat? ...so many many questions, the problem is that everyone in my club drives a AXIAL, and I want to be different, but at the moment it seems that I have a disatvantage because of the two motors... If it's possible, can you give me a link of a solution for the REDCAT, if this exists... thanks for helping, Roland |

From what I understand the most common fixes for clodstall are either running 2 esc's, or changing the pinion sizes. You could run a slightly bigger pinion in front and a slightly smaller one in back to change those out. Personally, I picked up a pair of cobalt 13 turn motors for my RS10 and a set of 10 tooth pinions to go with them (RS10's come stock with 10 tooth pinions) and I have practically no clodstall now. Unfortunately with dual motor rigs, it's practically impossible to cure clodstall 100%, but you can certainly improve it. Some people have modified their RS10's to be able to accept 540 sized motors, but in a couple of the cases the 540 sized motors stripped out the gears in the axles really badly. There aren't many 380 sized motor upgrades available, but the cobalt 13 turn motors are good if you can find them, and lately people have been using banebot motors also. I'm not sure if anyone has tried brushless in these rigs yet, though. These rigs take a little bit of time to get them running well, but I'm sure you'll have a blast with it. Hope this helps. |

hey i saw your post in here, welcome to the forum, it's a shame bout there not being a redcat thread. 1 of my buddies got one, now there's 3 of them in our group. one put a new esc in his...(tekin fxr) big difference. the common solution is the 2 esc's route. i've never seen it on a 380 powered rig though. with all the mods my buddy has in his redcat (yours looks exactly like it), the biggest performance upgrade is driving style. get used to it- it's very different from a "shafty". it was difficult to adapt for me personally, but i think im getting used to it now. my moa(cliffclimber-with 380's) crawls best when i blip the throttle, hold, blip, hold- i was told by a local pro- that the motors will have less a chance to stall that way. seems to be working real well for my set up

Hi all, thanks for your assistance. So, I think it's not as easy to get this motors to that place where I live. But, maybe we have similary motors like the ones you told me, perhaps you can give me technical datas of these motors, so that I can have a look for it, what I can find here in Europe? Helpful would be: - manufactured size - rotation speed - voltage - max. output Power - turns ...and things like this... Thanks a lot, cheers Roland |
