Question So lemme get this tranny thing straight..

So I'm falling head first into the modding/upgrading pit of time and expense and my kid hasn't even gotten his E10 yet (Christmas present). Can't help myself; can't leave anything alone. Anyway, I know torque twist is an significant issue for the E10 and I'm interested in doing a couple things to mitigate the issue. The way I understand it is that you can swap in a SCX10 transmission and do a 'mirror and flip mod' to it to greatly lessen the torque twist. In order to do this you disassemble the case and flip the input shaft of the SCX10 trans to exit the opposite half of the case. Then using some spacers provided on the tree of the SCX10 tranny case, you mount the motor plate to the transmission. You then must modify the motor plate to accept the holes in the E10 motor. Next you must rotate the chassis skid plate 180deg and drill some different holes to accept the new 'mirored and flipped' SCX10 transmission with E10 motor. And if all this is done you don't have to worry about swapping the motor wires and and thus the clocking or advance of the motor brushes. And all of this will not only get me a much stronger transmission (since you of course upgraded the three trans gears to metal since you were in there already), a slipper clutch of course AND now with much less torque twist!

Have I got all this right?
Does this actually work to reduce the torque twist?

I kinda assembled all this from multiple different threads and and videos so I could easily be missing steps or concepts somewhere.

Noobism!

From what I understand, mirroring the transmission makes only an incremental improvement in torque twist. I think the changing the link geometry will help more. I have virtually eliminated torque twist in my everest 10 without mirroring the transmission. I had a very noticeable reduction in torque twist after changing my skid plate to triangulate the lower links and changing to a semi droop suspension setup. If I had to guess, it was triangulating the lower links that made the bigger difference.

Here is my thread discussing the skid plate changes:

^ yup. Changing the skid plate on our E10’s to get better link geometry (like an scx10) made a BIG difference in torque twist. We’ve not messed with the trans position.

I think I'll try this as my first step to mitigating torque twist. Thinking Vader skid plate for the Gen7 is my direction of choice. If that doesn't do enough then I will maybe try the tranny flip and mirror as outlined above unless someone tells me I'm an idiot to do so and its a waste of time and money. Maybe increasing the shock angle too via frame extensions.

You're an idiot to do so and its a waste of time and money.

Just kidding. Just kidding.

I have flipped the Trans in the Everest 10. That will get rid of the torque twist while driving forward. But, it's there while driving in reverse. For me it was a good compromise until build the kids' Jeeps. The shocks on the Jeeps are vertical and I'm getting new skids plates to triangulate the links. There's already no torque twist. The triangulation is just to appease my "OCD".

Extend your stick chassis and vert the shocks. I think you'll notice a huge difference.
