Default Crapping out motors.

I have gone through 2 motors but only using 4 battery's. The rear motor always fails. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to fix it? Is there a decent motor upgrade that fits without major mods?

I have seen people do Banebots 390 and I know they are a direct bolt on replacement. I did 540' 60T Motors and I love them but that will require a bit of fab work on your part but It's a lot easier then ya think. But here is a link for those 390's

Then you have these from Holmes Hobby they have a bit more power, But a lil more money. Cobalt Puller 454

First of all, how are the motors failing? Are the motors getting hot, just not moving, are wires getting ripped out? What sort of situations are you in when you notice the motor goes down? For example, are you in some kind of bind, or just simply driving around on flat ground? Definitely gonna need a little bit more info.

The 1st motor went while tires were spinning on a cardboard course. The second motor went while KOH style crawling over some river rock. Now the front axle drags the rear axle around. The rear does not spin without force. I also noticed the front or the rear would always spin independent of each other.

You guys ever check out the timing of these motors you are putting in? The rear has reversed rotation (IIRC), and silver can motors are generally timed for the other way.

I noticed if I tighten the wheels down they bind and will barley turn. Are you guys running the nut a little loose to prevent this?

Take the wheel off, put some heat to that little setscrew on the wheel hex, loosen setscrew, take hex off, check little drive pin underneath to see if it's bent. Replace drive pin if needed, replace wheel hex onto axle, put it on so there's a little slop in the axle, re-tighten tiny setscrew. Put wheel and tire on & tighten nut down snug, but not super tight. Try that!

I've never checked the timing or anything on mine. How do you go about that? It might help these other guys out.

Easy way to do it on these motors is to hook them up and listen to the rpm. If there is a flat spot on the shaft, hit it with your fingernail and listen to the pitch. Then hook it up backwards and see if the speed is drastically changed. The motors should always be run in the faster direction. Maybe the banebot motors are at zero timing, which would be good. If that is the case then there will be little to no difference in the forward to reverse speed.

Default Crapping out motors.

Hey, I was looking and asking around. for a good motor ....for the price the banebots 390 seem to work well. My Son pulled the wires out of two motors, so i did not want to spend a lot of money If it was going to happen it again. A couple months playing on our back-yard course and no problems yet. I have to say I'm impressed..I fixed the rubbing problem, and everything works great. He is using 4000 stick battery. I'm not sure why your motors burn up. And the banebots bolt up, no mod required. Also maybe take your axles apart and check your spur gear and drive pins. Sometimes they break the first time you use your crawler.

Turns out the motor was fine. The pinion set screw was stripped out. I ended up JB welding the gear to the shaft. It works great now.
