Default Reely CR-200 (dutch Redcat RS10)

So, i decided to get a cheap 2.2 crawler. In the Netherlands, the redcat RS10 is sold as a reely CR-200. Don't know why, but it looks exactly the same, so i guess it's a marketing thing...

Anyway, i love the thing, but it does have some issues...
two steering servo's were fried within the hour, got some high torque ones coming.
I also have cut the foams into 10-point stars, and added 87grams of soldering tin (maybe not the cheapest, but i had this laying around) to the front wheels.

With weight

Without weight.

Also , i have the front shocks mounted at the front of the lower arms, and the back ones are about 1,5" up the lower arms. Looks kind of silly, the way it hangs forward, but the clearance in the back helps on the rocks, and the low frontend helps in the climbs.
Other than that its still stock.

I'm planning on a different body, cause this one is just silly. Probably a jeep body of some kind. Just a tad more scale appearance. Well when you look at it from a mile away anyway.
Also, a different suspension setup, but i'll get to that later.
And the 540 swap looks very interesting right now, cause i'm hating the clodstall.

I'll post all the updates in this topic.

It climbs okay with the front low and the back high. But, we're not there yet

After this session, i've changed the back to 4-link as wel, and it seem a lot less "floppy" now. I can even steer properly while flexing.

I am definitely ditching the stock body. It just doesn't seem to grow on me.
But i'm torn between the gmade chassis, which looks great, and this thing

But the gmade chassis looks kind of "scale", you can even put a driver in there.
What do you guys say?

I saw this 0,5mm steel sheet in my shed and figured i could try to make something of this 10. At least it ll be cheaper then an r1 chassis.
Here's the start

Yeah i drove it up there!

So on with the front

The "hood" hinges on the chassis and is attached by rubberband to the top of the axle
It still does okay!

Can't climb it, but still, it drove till almost vertical

Upgraded my crawler course

Also upgraded the shear pin in the front axle to a drillbit shear pin. Rear will be upgraded when the original breaks :-)

Some action pics. Pretty tough to wheel and photograph at the same time. Apologies for the blurry pics...

What servo's are you using now in this model? Any alterations needed, or the new ones fitted right away?

Actually, i don't know the exact servo's by heart, but the original ones got busted the first time i crawled it around.

Hello,
Nice rig
If your are not planning to swap tires in the near futur, a cheap mod is to sip them, to help them grab the rock better.
You can look here:
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/redca...ock-tires.html
Just one thing, for the lugs on the tread, do not cut them as deep as I did, like that they are TO flexible...
Hop this will help.

Thumbs up Re: Reely CR-200 (dutch Redcat RS10)

I LIKE IT !! Unique. I also made my last 2 bodies. And home-job roll bar. Way lower center of gravity for sure. Thanks for sharing, Sir!

I have red elswhere on this forum: hitec 645's are instant replacements, dimensions wise.
They are not digital but have 2 bearings and are metal geared.
So i bought 2 of them, one is now fitted on front axle and the other is waiting for the back servo (stock original) to go out aswell.
Luckaly this servo also does steer 'proportional' so digital or not does not matter in that way it seems.

Can't say if they are good or not, they work well, but time will learn how much longer they will hold out then stock servos.

I did 1 'mod', instead of the lowest hole on servo arm, i used the one closer to servo 'hart', and thus have 6 to 9 KG torque now and less back-leverage powers from wheels / obstacles to servo.
So i hope these hitec 645 will do there job for a long time and many runs.

Just gotta say... I recently switched to an Outcry ESC with a BEC. That lil' BEC really feeds power to my metal gear Lanso servo(from a stock Redcat Super). I already had aluminum steer knuckles, thank goodness! Otherwise, the servo is so much stronger and accurate, that it ripped apart two rod ends, before I had the linkage set right. :-) So if you really wanna see your servos WORK, try a BEC. Anyway... have fun crawlin in Amsterdam & The Netherlands!!
