| adding weight inside axles
I wanted to add weight to the front end but I didnt wanna add the weight on the tires or wheels to keep stress off the drivetrain if I could help it so I decided to add weight to the inside of the axles with some stick on wheel weights. I bent the weights on a vice by hammering a screwdriver onto the weights to bend them to the proper curvature to fit inside the axle. Then I shaved the weights to make them fit so the axles would ride unimpeded inside the axle housings. I then gorilla glue the weights to the inside of the axles and clamped them so they wouldnt move while setting up. This is the result. The weights do not intefere with the axles in any way and it has added 3oz of weight to the inside of the axle. edit: I was able to get another 1 1/2oz of weight inside the axle by adding weight inside the diff next to the spur gear. Its a tight fit but everything moves smoothly and everything clears. I could actually get an additional 1-2oz in there by double stacking weights in the diff but I am happy with it the way it is. Now I have a total of about 4 1/2oz Last edited by shaggy2112; 03-07-2012 at 10:32 AM. |

I like this concept. I have had an aversion to tire weights since I got into this hobby. I know from car racing experience that unsprung weight i.e. weight that turns with the tires is the most hindering in relation to an engines torque delivery. With the stock 390s limiting torque delivery is the last thing I want to do. I may well go this route myself. Kudos and nice write up as well! |

Very Nice Work I've been thinking about this as well. There's LOTS of space inside those axle tubes. And 'bought' knuckle weights are rediculously pricy!! |

It actually ended up being 3oz total. I forgot I needed to leave room for the cups which made me lose 1 weight per side.
