| lower gears for the wendigo marksman and gen8
i was messin around with the wendigo basket case project and had a idea to use a axial 3 gear trans for the tcase after messin around with it for a while i figured out if i lay the trans on its side it fits nicely i the hole in the skid plate and the outputs are in the stock location just the upper shaft sticks out just a bit more to the drivers side than the stock tcase but the shaft fits perfict this gives it ruffly a 3:1 gear reduction instead the 2:1 stock Last edited by ferp420; 03-16-2022 at 01:19 PM. |

2 small brackets on each side one L shaped and one U shaped on the other both brakets bolt to the original tcase mounting holes |

Nice work! The Wendigo is geared for 1.9's, taller 2.2 tires give it a way high ratio for crawling.

the biggest problem with the windigo is gearing im hoping this will be enuff gear down to mostly eliminate the low speed cogging

Any pics? I too am looking for gear reduction in the wendigo. Interested in the brackets... homemade or re-purposed parts? any help appreciated

Drilled 4 holes, and used some long screws and spacers. I like the idea of the Axial case like Ferp used, that's a 2.66 reduction. That's a nice change from stock. | |

@ OSRC I've seen/read all your wendigo upgrades and liked your transfer case swap, was hoping to not cut skid to fit... what sparked my interest when seeing ferp420 thread |

I've been getting all my redcats geared lower by converting to a 48p spur/pinion (you don't need 32p, no matter who says, all mine are 48p and beaten on and no problems) I use a 70t spur with a 9t pinion (tried 72/9 on one and had to dremel the inside of the gear cover a little bit) and it goes from the lowest stock ratio (5:1) to 7.78:1. Bigger difference than 1.9231:1 down to 2:1 or 2.6:1 for less work or $ honestly. Been very happy with it, wouldn't be as slow with the wendigo axles either, been upping my gen8s to 4s to compensate though. Been contemplating how to change the transmission itself to an axial, but havnt found the time or the need, but then you could get some major reduction. ive stripped more than my share of 48p gears to know to stay away from them and ive never seen anything like that for the gen8 platform but that dosent mean they dont exsist but this is a tcase mod so even if you did go that route you could still get even lower gears every little bit helps on the wendigo and ill bet the marksman could use these gears too Last edited by ferp420; 03-28-2022 at 08:48 PM. |
