Default 3Racing scale winch

Does anybody know if it will damage the winch powering it directly from a 9vt battery, instead of running it through the car battery, in my case, 7.4 volts?

Just seems easier to hook it up via a 9vt battery than splicing it into the main electrics....

thanks

The winch itself will handle it no issues its the included control unit that may kick the bucket. You can give it a try but it cant be guaranteed that the control unit will survive.

read the instructions..7.4v max input.
you can run it higher voltage but run the risk of
shortening the life span of the motor.

I would throw out that junk control board if you dont need it. I have replaced all of my control boards. I run old servos on my third channel to power and run the winch works so much better. Gave me variable speed as a bonus.

Thats not entirely true, i've run my 3r winch on 3s for over a year and never had an issue with the motor, i burnt out the stock control board but the motor is fine.
Theres a guy over here as well that has run one on 4s and hasnt had an issue with the motor, he's shattered a couple of the stock gearboxes but again his motor is fine.

Are you running it directly off of the 3S or 4S battery or is that the battery that is powering the whole truck?

Nope running it through a cheap esc of flea-bay thats running paralleled off the main 3s pack in my case.
The esc's are only rated at 6cells Nimh/2s lipo. But the 3r winch doesnt pull enough amps to worry the esc even at stall.
I have run one off a separate plug in controller made from a 3pos 6 pin switch & 3s 640mah battery didnt worry the winch motor but fried the little 3pos switch i was using after 4-5pulls.

I run mine off of a Mamba 25 just for the winch off of a 3s. Works like a charm every time

Running mine for a year on 3s tapped from the esc, no problems yet but the controller will get "warm" during extended use.

Dont do it! I tried and it worked for about 30 seconds. Then the board started smoking and little flames came shooting out. And im out $15!

I have been running mine from a 9volt battery. I have a dx3 with a 3pos switch that i wired into it. The winch plugs into the 3rd channel on my receiver. So far it has worked great for almost a year.
