Default Ammo crates/ toolbox / battery case

Hi guys, just though of sharing my AMMO CRATE/Battery Box

Before the build just a little background on how I came up with the idea. I was actually searching for a picture of a Flat Bed Yota and end up following this bed

I also need to put toolbox but I have to extend it down to the floor to fit my battery and hide the adj clutch of the SCX10 Tranny as well but then it may look like a coffin too me.

Then I came across this picture and gave me an idea of using AMMO Crates for toolbox, further search proves that ammo crated were indeed used in off roading as toolbox

And the idea took off using this crate as my reference

used Balsa wood 1/8" thick. I use blade instead of a saw in cutting the plywood. It leaves smoother edge

In just less than an hour of cutting and gluing

Test fit my 3S 2500Mah Lipo batt

I use 0.40mm thick brass plate and 1/16 brass rod for the hinge.

Unfortunately 2mm is the smallest screw I have so it didnt look scale on the hinges. I change the locking mechanism to a conventional one so I can use body clip to lock it.

With the basic gray paint (notice the added pins that work as nails)

I used letter Transfer decals for label details

Scuff the paint and edges for some wear and tear

Added some rusting effect on nails

now on the mounting to bed I preffer to use Velcro so I can transfer the Crate/batt box to my other rigs when needed.

here it is finished

thanks for looking

nice job, great reference pics. If you want smaller hardware, check out 00-90 hardware, it's smaller than the 2mm stuff.

Have you thought of waterproofing the inside or outside for water use?

That is probably the most functional scale item I have seen so far. Very nice job with the patina!

No yet but you can use a waterproof box and work your Ammo Crate around it, this crates came in many sizes anyway.
And thanks for giving us an idea, this is also good in hiding electronics.

Yes, any yarn will do I couldnt find one while on the build, some rope handles got a grip I think shrinkable tubing can work that. Might do that later

Thanks again for the rest, its makes the sharing worth it

How did you roll the brass? I tried today to roll some around the 1/16 rod and man did it look messed up.

Just with a needle nose pliers, should be fairly easy.

Thanks guys.

I know it sounds dumb, but dammit!! Guess you've got bad ass needle nose pliers. Still looks good regardless.
