Make one. It's easy enough just a 4mm nut and a pieceo of 1/8" piano wire. Braze solder or even JB weld them on.

I will honestly be very happy once Montana is done and in the books. My brain is literally about to explode As far as the sparenutz(my name for it) it's not an exact science, but I can def make them now. I'd say I get 2 good ones for every 5 I try making. Good thing those little nuts are cheap Jeremy, I'll send you something after I get back from Montana. | |

After about an hour's worth of searching, I couldn't find anyone that sold these, not knowing what they are called meant having to go through every vendor's scale pages. I'd thought about just buying the Honcho parts tree, but I don't own a Hocho, the size is wrong for what I need, and $29 is a little expensive for this one part. I guess my next step into this hobby is learning to braze, it will give me something to do when the paint is drying when I am learning to airbrush... Thanks to KTBone for making this part for me. |

Too bad, Mcmaster carries Eye Nuts, but smallest metric size is 6mm. A few boat sites also have them in stainless, but also starting at 6mm. They would look OK as is, or you could cut the center of the ring out to look like curved handles. Could always get them, fill in with JB weld and drill and tap to 4mm. I have to say that I'd rather have a nice brazed piece, but I made my stock axial part work a whole lot better. I used one of the plastic nuts from parts tree ax80018 instead of a lock nut. I tapped it with a 3mm tap and used a small dab of CA to fix it to the "wing" portion. It screws off and on really easy and stays put.

I am afraid I am going to snap the wings right off the cheap-o plastic piece.

| with the plastic nut, you don't have to pinch the crap out of the wings to get the darn thing off and on. I'm still gonna braze one up eventually, but using the plastic nut is way better than a steel locknut in the kit piece.

another option for holding down the spare is a bungy, it's a lot faster than the spare hold down thing. i learned this as i watched everyone else at the longbeach g6 get their bungy mounted spare off quickly as i lost the axial little tiny nut right after i got it off. the bungy makes it a lot faster.

I use a M4 wingnut I picked up from lowes, similar to this. I suppose you could braze some 'extensions' onto the wings if you wanted them longer. |
