Default Build your own Pull Pal

**These are NOT for sale or trade - just make your own..it's easy!!**

You need a cotter pin bent as shown and a flat piece of metal (PC expansion slot covers work great!). Drill a hold in the end of the cotter pin for a tow shackle.

Solder the metal to the cotter pin

Trim the corners

Grind it smooth (depending on your soldering skills!)

Grind a flat spot for the shackle

Paint it an add some heat shrink tubing for handles/grips

Add a cotter pin tow shackle and you're done!

Looks good. Are these more for show? Cotter pins are soft and can be bent by hand.

Nice stuff, I've checked out all your accessories and even made the cotter pin shackles myself, but I have a few questions.

1) What size cotter pins did you use? I used some rather large pins because even the smallest drill bit takes the hole right to the edge of the pin...what did you use to drill out the holes? It looks like your pins are smaller than mine, and I'd like to make smaller ones.

2) When you soldered the plate on to the pin, you just used a regular soldering iron and solder? No brazing?

Thanks in advance :-)

I have my stuff packed right now during winter (our garage turns into a greenhouse...and the garage is where I work on RC ) but I think I got the 2nd biggest size tractor supply had...basically just bought by look. As far as drilling the holes, I went to harbor freight and bought a big pack of tiny drill bits (sorry don't remember the size but they were tiny). I used a dremel to start the hold and then drilled them out...keep the bit greased up...and fyi I usually got 2 or 3 hooks drilled before the bit broke.

Yep, when I soldered I just used the soldering iron (no brazing). Good luck!!

It really is. Tested mine out yesterday and it handled the weight of my rig just fine. I need to shoot it with some flat black and call it good.

The flat black hi-temp paint for bbq grills won't crack off as easily...

High temp engine paint works good if you cure it in the oven as per directions

Pretty big thread bump, but thanks for this! I need a pull pal for a upcoming comp, but have completely exhausted by budget atm, so the will be perfect.

I'll have this a go tonight and post pics of how it turns out.

Had to use bolts as solder wouldn't stick to one of the pieces no matter what I did. Here it is:
