| speed weigand camper / Dingo
I finally had a chance to work on the camper. Originally I had it slated for another build but this idea popped into my head. The idea was to adapt the camper to fit a Dingo body. It was fairly straight forward. I needed to shorten the tail of the camper and also narrow the overall width. I did this before I glued any of the pieces together. I will also need to trim 1/8th inch from the Dingo cage. Simple task of removing the roll bar and taking the material off the bottom of the posts, then re-attach Pics tell the rest. Glueing and clamping stages. I did not follow the directions.....BIG SUPRIZE This is the final clamping it was a 2 stage affair the way I did it. Step 1 was to glue the sides and all cross pieces in. Next step was glueing roof on and clamping it I let the glue dry over night, probally not needed but it was good and set in the mornings. Elmers wood glue was used thru-out. I may add a interior...or.... just tint the windows We will see how much time I have over the holidays Last edited by hotwheels000; 12-22-2012 at 03:44 PM. |

I'm down for a camper run. I'm glad to see another local do one as well. Speed Weigand seems to have designed a nice kit. I got the sink and stove off of Ebay. They're for a 1/12 scale doll house. It took a while of looking and waiting for just the right stove and sink that I liked for the build to be listed. Everything else I built from scratch. The cupboard doors are from bass wood stock I got from my LHS. Same goes for the framing and siding. The clear plastic windows are from a fruit container from Costco. I wired my LEDs wrong and just about blew the 9v up...OOOPS! Caught it in time and disconnected it....Phew!

Thanks Russ, your attention to detail and patience is second to none. Now I need to decide how creative I want to get... if at all. Do you know if there is a local supplier in the Seattle/Tacoma/Everett area ? |

No. I just relied on ebay. There aren't any here in Port Orchard and I didn't feel like wasting gas driving all over the place.

Camper looks really good shortened up and on the Dingo. As for the dollhouse supplies, Hobby Lobby has them, if they are in your area. Otherwise, check out, Dejoux Dollhouse Miniatures & Accessories | Online Store, I have bought the fire extinguisher and other stuff from them. I also built this camper and cut my windows from 1/8" lexan, painted them black on the inside and shoe goo'd them into place. I used masking tape on the lexan them traced the opening onto the masking tape. I cut them bigger than my tracing on a scrollsaw and then dremelled them to a snug fit. |
