| Bodiless?
I have been pondering making my chassis bodiless. All I would need is some thin delrin right? And some bracing? I read the measurement requirements in the rules and I'm fairly certain I can do it with ease. What do yall think? |

Id like to see how that turns out. The thought has crossed my mind before too. Hell im kinda surprised no one has come up with some kind of kit to do this.

I used lexan but yes it's easy. Draw it, cut it, put some panels on it.

Here's a preliminary design. I still need to work out how the side panels would fit on it. |

Looks rigid! Does it hold up well? Also, did you paint it white or did you get some white lexan? Thanks! |

I like the design chops. Are you gonna cut it out with hand tools or on a machine?

Dont know yet. Still in the design stage right now. I might just get Jeff to cut it out of thin aluminum for me. Who knows.

It's really stout. I work at a sign shop so lexan is plentiful. White is just the color that was laying around the shop that was the right thickness. I could probably go a little thinner and still be plenty durable. | |

| i dont know if aluminum would work well...it might get damaged more easily in a hard flop...say tumbling off a ledge and landing on top of or on the side. i think the delrin type materials might be the better choice...not to mention when youre on your lid the aluminum wouldnt slide on the rocks as easily.

AND you have to include the fact that he had the heaviest axles on the market attached to that chassis and the shocks at the outermost holes...something was bound to give up... i always enjoyed hearing his rig do a flop...THUD! |

Chops, this thread got the wheels turnin and I think im gonna give this a try. Looks like a 12"x12" sheet of delrin at Mcmaster is 15 bucks and a 24"x12" is 25 bucks. Both 1/8" thick (which might be a lil too beefy).Im not too keen on cutting it out with a jigsaw/dremel though. If you think of another way to go about this lemme know cause I may go ahead and order up a sheet.

Thanks guys. I might go with aluminum at first just to see how it performs. Jason, I can get Jeff to cut it with the waterjet at his job. I was looking at the delrin sheets as well. I dont think 1/8 would be too thick. If you have a design in mind I can draw it out on autocad for you. Last edited by chops1sc; 11-17-2010 at 05:58 PM. |

I traced my chassis out and Ive been playing with a few things. Everything turns out looking like a Beetlejuice though. If you wanna order the sheets/rods/spacers together from mcmaster to save on shipping etc. just lemme know. What all do you need from me to get things going on autocad?
