| Not entirely true, $300 gets 2 7980's and bec's, but yea takes a huge bite out of his $400 budget. You could probably build a Clod based super pretty cheap, not $400 cheap but hey it'd be a super to get started. Kinda depends on what the OP wants to do, super to just play with or a full on competitive comp super.

So for MOA you can prolly double youre budget because $400 aint happinin. 2 servos $200, 2 esc's $200, and 2 motors $100 and now your over.... imo build another rig that better suits the budget and have fun .. but if you are dead set on a super there are normally some pretty good deals on clod axles here, start there and build her up piece by piece |

What kinda high-dollar place you shoppin at? You COULD spend another 400 on electronics but even new you can get all that for 225-250. I do agree on the getting a used Clod part.

Have you looked at the Exceed Mad Torque? They're 139.00 right now for the ARTR version. Then you get yourself some 1/4 scale servos ($50 - need two), new motors ($38 - need two) and esc ($66), 40 series rims ($30) and cut up some tires ($60 - need 4 pairs, 8 total), plus donor sidewalls ($47). You'll need some IC2000 and some thin CA glue, some lipos for it, and you'll probably want a new chassis, and something to mount the huge servos to, some new links, and some other supplies to get the thing finished: $139 $50 $38 $66 $30 $60 $47 Total: $430, not including the shipping, batteries, chassis, axle brace, links, and building supplies. Even with the MT you're over the $400 mark. $400 is hard for a super, but if you do most of the fabrication work yourself, and buy second hand, you can do it, and you can always build in stages too. You can be competitive with the EXMT, but even my budget EXMT build is closing in on $400, and that's with me doing a lot of the labor myself (cutting custom parts from delrin, etc.) |

I recently purchased an Exceed Max Stone 8 for $194 with a free shipping coupon I found online. I have been extreemly happy with the build quality, and after two months the only thing I have done out of want not need was install a rear servo for 4ws. This thing is huge and now turns sharper than my AX-10. The spare parts are very cheap and I stocked up on anything plastic that might break for around $70. When I ordered extra shocks I got 4 aluminum shocks for $14, most of the plastic parts come in qty of four or two so you end up with extras for the extras. I have not needed an extra part yet, but I heard it is tuff to get spares for these at times so I stocked up since they had a good inventory at the time. This is my first non shafty super class truck, and I am amazed at the articulation. In fact I need to take some out as 90 degrees is not needed and often hurts in some situations. Something to consider looking at anyway.

You can get a new Clod but you may as well go used since all you need are the axles.

As everyone here has said supers are pricy. I just got mine running, its a shafty and I have spent over $400 easy. Its easy to go over budget. The fxr esc I got on the sale forum for $80, tranny $62, Cheap servo's $60 already want to upgrade them, Tires/wheels $80, Drive shafts $20....on and on it goes. I would say listen to the guys on here since they know what they are talking about. If you still want to do a super of any kind, the best advice I can give you is do it a little at a time and get the good parts you want or others recomend and only get them once. I learned the hard way. Spend your money well so you dont have to buy the same parts twice. I hope this helps thanks |
