It all depends on what size rig. I use the same setup on my 2.2 and it works great but if you are going bigger you might want diferent pinions or motors. You shouldnt need a cooling fan on that esc mine never gets warm.

65t with 8 tooth is the most common that I see.

Default about motor windings...

the relationship between then number of turns and rpm/volt is inverse. that means a 65T is much slower than a 35T. there are a variety of factors that influence a motor's speed.
1. voltage - electric motors react to voltage. that's why the motor slows down as the pack dies
2. windings - the number of windings a motor has indicate if it's going to be fast (high kV) or high torque.
3. brushed vs. brushless - this is important because a brushless motor can be very stable at very low speed and still go very fast if enough voltage is applied. that low speed stability is a result of no electrical connection to the armature. in a brushed motor, at extremely low speed the current goes through same point on the commutator for a long time. that sucks up battery without really giving anything back.
in the words of JRH (HolmesHobbies) "gear down - volt up". this is good advice when you consider that your speed control is only applying a percentage of the battery's voltage to the motor based on your input. a 35T on 7.2v is probably going to yield good wheelspeed at the expense of low end modulation, where a 55T can be very controllable at the low end but runs out of top speed too soon. i've had good success with hand-wound 45T on 7.2v and a good transmitter, but i prefer 11.1v LiPo and brushless.

this is not to say you can't get great results with less than 11v. you just have to come up with a good mix based on your style and the terrain you run on. a 45T on 8.4v will still be as controllable at the low end as it is with 7.2v but with a little more top end. if your ESC can handle it, take up even further. there are successful competitors that are using 9cell and even 10cell sub-C or 2/3A to get the wheelspeed they need and still have good crawl control.

given enough time and tuning (and thought), you should be able to come up with a package that works well.

Good setup apart from the servo. That servo will struggle to turn super class size tyres. I'd go for more torque around 200oz+

I've been running 35t's with 6 tooths on a 4 cell with more low speed controle than I can shake a stick at.

I second upgrading those servos. They'll take a dump on you quicker than you'd like. I went to 5955s.

JRH has them and I think you can still get the $10 off also . Enter the coupon January in the checkout screen . he has not said the sale was over . so you can get one shipped for around $107.00 http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php...&cat=13&page=1
