| Busted Raptor 2 Axle
Hey I just got my raptor 2 axles about a month ago from TCScrawler I didn't run them under the power of a motor until just yesterday and the rear motor spun but the axle didn't move. I tore it apart took a look at it and the main gear that just slips on the axle shaft (I was dissapointed when I saw that) wasn't gripping the teeth on the axle shaft because the gear didn't have any teeth. Now I didn't see any metal shaving in the grease or around the gear box so is this a manufacturer defect? If so is it worth the trouble shipping it back and forth or can I just solder or brace it? I would contact rc4wd direct(info on website) with info on order/payment through TCS. They are very good about replacing broken parts. here's a link.. http://www.rc4wdstore.com/ There's a contact link right below the picture of crawler. |

The next thing that will break is the XVD. RC4WD sells a dogbone style "upgrade" to fix that problem too.

| frdtrkguy just bought another raptor2 axle and it came with the XVD's. RC4WD told him if the XVD breaks send us a pic and we will replace it (once). If they know they have a problem with the XVD's, why would you send it out wothout the dogbone setup? IMO they should send the axle out with the dogbone axle.

XVD's / CVD's will usually have sharper turning and more strength. Bogbones are a simpler cheaper to make design. Basically. | |

I'm sorry I don't understand what your trying to say so I'm making this easy. Which is Which. And now since one of my axles are XCD and one dogbone when the other one that didn't break yet breaks what will you send me XVD or Dogbone Oh and I lost the big axle bearing, where can I order those, I can't find or you could just tell me the size (I don't have a accurate way of measuring them) Last edited by Speedyboy; 03-12-2008 at 05:09 PM. |

Its a trade off the XVD's have better steering throw but are very weak. The dogbones are strong but you sacrafice steering We need a strong XVD style axle, RC4WD |

Well... You guys where right. I had one Dogbone axle and one XVD axle and the XVD busted on my first attempt at a rock crawl. It was up hill with large sharp shocks. Not much of a crawl though. Anyways to add to my NEWB confusion the rear pinion gear came loose (probally due to NEWB mistakes...should I use CA or Loctite on the set screw) so I just had fun with that... and busted the other side of the already busted axle. So who wants to predict what will break next I love it BTW it pivot on its rear tire in a sharp full throttle turn. Gotta love 70 turns with a 3 cell battery. | Raptor
Use locktite, not CA glue. I have the dogbone axles and have had them bound up pretty good and they hold up. No issues with the dogbone set-up.
