Default BTA worth the trouble?

Building a torsion 2.2 clod right now and am working on the axles. I have the rear lockout done and now I need to figure out what type of steering to go with. I am making the links and servo mounts myself. The bta will take longer to make but is it worth it? I'm not competitive, at least not yet. Will the axle slide up rocks alot easier than aluminum links? I ran standard links before but don't remember how much of an issue this was. if not bta, what would you recommend?

Thanks

Picking better lines.

Sure every once in a while you might have made it up something the first time if your link wasn't smashed up against a rock, but why is your link up against a rock? Wrong line.

That's the way I see it.

That being said, it's really easy to do.

EeePee is right, picking the best line is always the best way, but a little less interference doesn't hurt ! Here's one I made up, and so far sooooooo good.

If picking lines is so important why do most run bta on comp crawlers

Looks pretty simple from those pics. That one link doesn't rub the gearcase? I would like to go with that setup if it works well.

Cause they can't drive, or because it was cool back in the early days.

If you're referring to mine, it doesn't hit the gear case at full lock because it's ever so slightly bent. Make sure you situate the knuckles correctly, high side up, and drag link below the arm. The drag link will almost fit right in the spot above the screw holding the halves together. Just check out my picture and it should be clear.

Made bta and am loving it. Now for a new question. I'm running a flipped rear axle and the plastic tab gets stuck when I do really steep stuff. What do you guys do with this? If you remove it will the gearbox halves spread apart under power?

Just shave that mount off the back. When you bolt your motor up it holds everything together just fine.

That makes sense, I wasn't thinking of how the motor scews actually act like clamps on a clod.
