Default PVC Torsion Chassis

I dont own anything clod related at the moment but am considering building a 2.2 and have a question on torsion chassis mounting. I was at a comp in paradise and saw a 2.2 crawler running hr axial moa axles and all that it had for a chassis was 3/4" sch40 pvc cut in half lengthwise and mounted directly to the axles. My question is could I get some clod axles and a piece of pvc for a torsion chassis and mount the axles up without links or shocks and have a ultra simple chassis setup? What is a decent price for a set of used clod axles with motors?

Nothing like breaking/bending your chassis in the middle of a comp when you were doing oh so well.....

Been there done that.

So the pvc chassis is good only for a 2.2 because of the wheelbase.

Yeah, I think the long wheel base would put too much leverage on the chassis. But, It would be pretty cheap to try it out. You could try the 1" stuff for extra durability??

Were you one of the guys in paradise running the pvc style chassis? I just thought the concept of such a cheap chassis was sweet.

Yeah, Me and my Brother-n-law Trevor. Mine was the one with the patriotic flag paint job. The PVC was Trev's idea about 1 1/2 years ago. We have been runnung it ever since. It has its pro's and con's just like everthing else.

I think it might work. Schedule 40 is pretty strong stuff. You may want to look at 1" diameter and stay away from Sch 80

Default 2.2

I just built a 2.2 pvc comp rig using 3/4 and it seems cool and can't wait to use it. I will be post it tommarrow with pics. It has a good amount of flex and seems like that flex will help in durability to since it won't bend and is tough to break it just springs right back.

Default no pics

I used the pvc for a bit then got a alum pimp cane since one came up for cheap. I made a pvc one since for a buddy and they work ok but are pretty flexy for a comp rig so if you make one leave as much of the pipe there as you can so maybe 3/4 of the pipe and cut off the top 1/4 just enough to get the bolt thru the top. Make sure you make good l brackets to your gearboxes to keep it going straight. Works pretty good and cheap.

This Super belonging to Terry SC was at the UKRCRC '08 Nationals in the UK. It uses PVC channel. If doing a Super crawler you just need larger PVC! These are the only pics I have sorry about the quality.

There are so many ideas for a cheap chassis. Just go to the local hardware store and see what materials they have. Great thing about it it won't cost much to try some ideas.
