Default Project: Low Budget Super

Im starting with a relativly low $600 budget (up from my original plan of $500)

Clod axles: $75 shipped (forsale section)
Integy axle Tubes: $34 a set (LHS)
Integy Knuckles: $28 a set (LHS)
Stick Backbone: $27 (Mcmaster) 2024 alloy 1/2"x.095 wall
Heims: $6 x2 (Mcmaster)
3/8 bolts: $1 total (Ace)
4-40 bolts: $5 per 100 (Fastenal)
4-40 nuts $1.50 per 100 (Fastenal)
2-55t lathes: from existing trucks (normal price $19 @ LHS)
dx6: From my crashing of airplanes about 2 yrs ago (ebay value $60)
dx6 regulator: $15 (dimensionengineering.com)
dx6 spring mod: $0.50 for spring (ace)
Dubro 6-32: $1 each 8 needed (vendor section)
Brakeline links for now: $3.40 for 5' (Northern autoparts) will be changed to delrin in the future.
6-32 threaded rod: $1.82 for 3' (HomeDepot)
Maxx Big Bores: $8.53 each x2 ($68.24 for 8 rcslot.com)
misc 1/4" aluminum for shock mounts: free from friend
1/2"x1/4"#4 spacers: $0.27 (Mcmaster)
Switches for DIG: $2 x2 (Frys Electronics)
2 sidewinders: $83.07 each (rcslot.com)
Castle Bec: $24.56 (rcslot.com)

Total so far: $486.52

I have enough material to make 2 backbones so I am making 1 shorter for turning courses and 1 longer for climbs like at Nationals. My Budget is looking in jeapordy but, I plan to do some money saving such as reusing the BEC and Mamba Maxx from my current super class truck (savings of $107.63). I also wont be using a dedicated battery for this project, I will reuse one from another truck.

initial layout to get an idea how it will look:

After Integy parts installed, Links made, backbone drilled/tapped. Not shown is the jig I made, its basicly 2 pieces of aluminum L (pictures on request)

As you can see, I decided not to clock the motors very much. I didnt like the steering angles that it created.

I still need to add 2 steer servos to the cost list and a dig servo. I am waiting for the new Proline super class tires to be released before I make a call on that.

What are the new Pro-Line tires going to be? Besides Moabs, it's about time they released something for the supers. Chisels?

I see you haven't gotten any Servo's yet. I've got the best Budget Super Servo's you can ask for. Over 330oz for $30 bucks... Full Metal gears too...

Are you going to use 4 shocks instead of 2? I think it would be a good idea.

So that it dampens on both sides. The way they are setup it does some weird things, I have run them 12.5", 16", and 18". And I do not like the way it flops around using 2 shocks. I think it would be more predictable using 4. A guy here in CO made one using 4 savage shocks, that rig killed.

Ive been running a 2.2 for a couple months now and I love it... very predictable. Properly setup, I find that it doesnt flop around either direction... 1 direction the front shock does the work, the other the rear.

I never could, and I spent ALOT of time on them. Between the axle steer and the flop, I gave up and went for a 4-link setup.

Good luck with your build and keep up the creativity, long live the super class!

made a few parts... 2 lower shock mounts and 2 BTA servo mounts. Im not sure if Ill be able to use the rear servo mount though because of the way the stick shocks mount.

What angle did you bend your links? I was thinking about making a set of bent links for my stick.

I made some more progress... The upper shock mounts are made and amazingly give exactly the articulation I wanted.
