Default Who else has issues with Links hitting motor contacts?

I noticed my rig was getting really twitchy when I was flexing up good, and that I'd get some sparks (very shortly) and I couldn't quite tell where they were coming from.. It ends up that on full flex, my links rest RIGHT ON my motor contacts

Just covered my uppers on that side in some electrical tape (the blue stuff even, :blingbling: ) So no more problems with it anymore.

I just figured I'd post up so if any of you clod guys have noticed twitching on flex, this is probably your issue. Even if you haven't had issues, you might want to do it anyway, shorting out your ESC is no good!

Just some cheap insurance.

Dave

Its not entirely just what size motors, how much your axles sway side to side on articulation makes a big difference

TerribleOne, YES, I think almost everyone has that issue. Its my bumpstop, was on my last rig too. I broke one link because of it, now that I have steel links, I've torn up a few rod ends. No biggie though. Its not going to hurt the gearcase from what I've gathered!

It's called "heatshrink tubing" and it rocks. Get the dual wall stuff, then the links can bash away at the motor with no problem.

Or, just change your link mounting points and that problem will be a thing of the past. I get 90 deg art with my setup and have plenty of clearance between the links. But, yea the easy way would be to add some shrink tube or Elec. tape.

Well, to change my upper link mounts would be kinda difficult. I have a center post, I suppose I could get a taller one though. I don't want to mount anything on my upper axle braces because they never stay still.

I had one of my trucks that I had to make the center post mount for the upper links around 1.25" above the tranny so it could articulate w/o hitting the tranny's. I was trying a lower CG design. It works good but looks a little off. But performance is key right not looks

For sure! I think my uppers might run into my frame braces though if I did that. Its workin fine though w/ the tape, so no worries ;)

I bent my top links so they would clear the motor on my crawler.
