Default Newbie With A Gecko 2

I just bought this on ebay, and I am excited. I have a 1/6th nylint and a 1/18th nylint and have enjoyed them alot, but wanted to get a real crawler. It is a gecko2 chassis, clod axles, evx speed controll set up to run with two batt still, futaba radio, monster maxx motors, 40series big joe tires on chrome wheels, stock clod tires and wheels, and two 1900 batteries. I am new to all of this, and I have some questions. I have been here studying on the clods for about 3 weeks now, and am so excited to get one!
1. Is this an ok pkg?
2. will the monster maxx motors be ok for crawlin?
3. will the big joe tires work or will I have to get somthing different?
4. should I do the single battery mod on the evx?
5. I need to get a charger, but I would like it to be able to charge my 1/18th nylint battery too. I also have a 1/5th HPI 5B on order and will have a 2000mah nicad 6cell pack for the RX. what charger should I get (under $100)

Thanks for any Input, I need it.

Here is one that I use and I love it . MRC supper brain 977 .
Charges NiCd, NiMH, Lithium Polymer, Lithium Ion, Gel Cell and Lead Acid
batteries. Charges two batteries at the same time even if they are different
voltages and/or battery types (LCD displays only one channel) Nearly foolproof
setting for 1-3 cell Lithium Polymer and Lithium Ion batteries for safe and
easy charging.

Here is the link for more info

Look Like You Got A Good Buy. Try To Move The Servo To The Axle Brace On The Left Side You Will Have To Make A New Link To Connect It To The Knuckle. Wire Your Speed Controler For One Battery. Don't Know About The Big Joes But I Run Moabs Xl On Narrow 40s Rims On My Gecko 2 And Love Them And If It Try To Roll Over Cause Of Too Much Axle Movement Or Suspension Flex Cut Some Fuel Line And Put It On The Shock Shafts. Lol

Thanks for the input. like I said, I am new to this and know little about it besides what I have read on here. Will those motors work at all for crawling? I think he said they were like 19 turn.

Well, what's it connected too? My guess is that it's a servo reverser... maybe... that's just what it kinda looks like to me. Can you give us some closer pics? Give us a little more info?

well I ordered the superbrain 977 tonight. Found out that it was 12v or 120v, and that it will charge virtually any battery (even the lead acid batts for the 1/6th nylint) or even two at the same time, at any rate you choose. Still dont know whether to order a couple lathes or not. does anyone know if these motors on the truck are useable? If I do put a couple lathes on it I found one thread on here about turning the endbell a 180 degrees for one of the motors. Do I have to do that? And if so is it the back motor, or the front?

Thanks guys

Well I went ahead and ordered a couple Integy 55t lathes too. Im sure they will be better than what is on the truck now and give me better run times. Do I have to turn the endbell 180 degrees on one of these motors, or are they ok the way they come?

Well I finally recieved it. The thing looks like it is brand new. No scratches underneath or anything. It came with aluminum tracklock gears in both ends, and complete bearings. Its like the guy built it and then sold it before he used it. I think I got a good buy. The tires and wheels are way to wide, and have a bad offset, so I ordered some different ones. Cant wait for everything to get here!

Hello,

Looks like a pretty good deal to me but I personally think you need to do a few things to really get the full benefit of having such a nice chassis. First of all I would get a couple of Integy 55t lathe motors so you can get the wheel speed down and get the torque up. Second I would loose the tires and get some Moab's if your serious about crawling. You need to forget the two packs as weight is definitely your enemy in rock crawling; you want to keep your rig as light as possible. As far as the charger I have to agree with the others here that said the MRC supper brain 977. I wish you the best of luck with your truck and think you have a good solid platform to build off of.

I already ordered the super brain 977, and the 55 turn lathe motors, and new tires and wheels. I also ordered some of Ace's wheel adaptors for the extra width, just in case I need it. It already has the 8 tooth pinons, and adjustable motor mounts. I need some Deans connectors, Because it just has pin connectors and tamiya plugs on it now. Where is the best place to order them from?
