| Chassie Choices Wheel specs added, HELP
If you were going to build a new truck, what Chassie would you start with? Lets say you wanted a great All around truck not just for crawling but for pulling, Plowing Bashing and if it fits that bill it should crawl, Let me know I am interested to hear your thought? Thanks!

what size tires are you planning on running? Since you are in the Clod section, I assume you are going to be using Clod axles |

If you're going to use the truck for this many things you can't really expect it to excel in any. Have you ever hear the old cliche' "Jack of all trades, Master of none"? This basically describes what you will end up with in a truck built to do all these and not specialize as a certain type. With that said if I were going to build such a truck I would certainly go four link but the chassis would have to be one of the more sturdy ones on the market right now. Adjustability would also be a big factor in purchasing this chassis if it were me. As far as suggesting a particular chassis like the others I would need to know tire size you plan to run and if you plan on running super class or 2.2 with the crawler.

Tons of choices and price ranges out there to choose from. Like insanerc said, adjustability is the key when you want a chassis to work in a lot of different applications. I take it from this question you're not planning to build another Z2?

i would go with the gecko 2 kit. http://www.rcguy.com/ when i started my first clod michael was very helpful and told me everything i needed to know. if you go with the pro kit it comes preassembled and all you have to pick up is your clod axles with a couple other parts. customer service is a big plus for me, ive contacted another company who i wont name, and they basciallly just told me to go look at their website. that was obviouslly a lost sale for them. thats when i checked out rcguy and i was very happy with the kit, it can be adjusted to look more like a crawler or a real monster truck. just my 2 cents.

For a multi use platform, the Evolution chassis from CPE in a 14 in. WB looks to be a good choice.

I am in a unique situation, I had both of my Z2's stolen from my garage so I want to replace them. I have never been able to just build a high end truck all at once before, It took over 10 years to get all the aluminum I had on my Z2 so as the choices have grown I am looking at everything before I decide what to buy. I am gonna run RC4WD bead locks with jumbo chevron's on both and Brett is correct I am only gonna build 1 Z2 and I am looking into a JPS chassie at the moment for the second truck. I always wanted a set of those axels. I am not a racer, I mostly pull and plow snow and chace the kids with the trucks, but as my Zilla has been Bullet proof for so long I am having a hard time trying to replace it. Let me know, Oh yeah I am looking into Team Checkpoint motor as well, any one run them? |

I don't really want to buld a dedicated crawler, I like the tall awesome look of the old school monster trucks, Big heavy and intimidating, With tons of aluminum |

Your never going to get an "all around great truck" and you might as well forget crawling with a "tall monster truck" You'll be lucky to end up with a truck that will be even decent doing anything. That all around method doesn't really work. I'd suggest building a basher, then not counting on it to do too well at rock climbing, but having some ability. Just my .02. |

^^^ <--- Now you know that's not true... :-P The VS, is probably one of the strongest chassis you can get... Look how thick the chassis plates are, compared to Benders (My VS is sitting on top of an SW2): I have a N.N. for my comp Clod I now have a VS for my comp TLT Either one would be a good choice!!! But; The Vertical Smile is cheaper $$$$$. Plus; Jason will make it to your specifications... Last edited by raytard; 05-17-2006 at 09:34 AM. |
